A 400-Mile-Long Layer Of Fog Has Been Draped Over California For 3 Weeks

California's Central Valley is no stranger to the phenomenon known as tule fog, but a blend of perfect conditions has allowed this particular event to last for over three weeks.

Lots of soil water. Modesto and Hanford broke all records for precipitation from September to November.

In late November, a stable high-pressure system developed over California, helping to trap all of that moisture.

The fog layer has kept things cool in the valley as the rest of the Southwest has been basking in above-average temperatures.

Now we have our temperature inversion.

Is the end coming soon? Until a storm comes in to clear out the moist air, there's no anticipated end to the foggy conditions. The National Weather Service in Hanford, California, is warning of fog at least through Friday of this week.

Storm is on the doorstep. The rain (from the Pineapple Express, latest edition) in the Central Valley and foothills keeps getting pushed forward. It now looks like Wed through Friday (which so happen to be Dec. 24, 25 and 26.) Nice timing.

2. The rain keeps getting delayed, but I still see "fluff". Must be only scenic at this point and not near the ground.

For a while, it was between 1000 and 2000 ft. elevation, IIRC.

The Fresno forecast says none, and yesterday was clear driving from and to the foothills. Might be gone now?
And then comes the rain.
