This group is for the discussion of issues related to skepticism, science and pseudoscience, and the role of rationalism in society. Skepticism is not used here to mean doubting, but refers to a desire to subject ideas and conclusions to research and investigation. It is expected that members of this group generally accept that the consensus of the scientific community on any given topic is the result of overwhelming evidence born out of this investigation and research and not a conspiracy to silence or conceal the truth.

Non-skeptics are invited to participate, provided that they do so in a respectful, non-disruptive manner. If you believe in astrology, faith-healing, tarot, magic, homeopathy, expanding earth, electric universe, creationism, or other non-scientific or pseudoscientific worldview, this may not be the place for you.

Posts that endorse, promote, or support pseudoscientific, anti-vaccination, alt-med, or creationist beliefs, products, or materials are not considered acceptable for this group. For this reason, links and excerpts from pseudoscientific, anti-vaccination, alt-med, or creationist sites are permitted only for the purposes of criticism.

I would think a sticky post that expounds on the Statement of Purpose, as long as the group agreed on the substance of it, would be fine -- indeed, expected to happen -- in this brave new DU.

I agree with you about the pinned thread. Once we have our Host assigned, they can add the new instructions to a thread and pin it up top.

There are actual continental drift deniers? That's kind of depressing.

There are actually still real flat earthers and those that believe the earth is the center of the solar system. Not many but enough.Sadly there will always be people who believe nonsense. I like this statement of purpose very much

It expands due to the steady rain of cosmic debris, a few millimeters per century, but it adds up over time.

The Wackypedia article is informative, listing the wackos that went for the full blown expanding theory, perhaps including Paul Dirac.

Bad Company, like the song says.
