"Scientist" finds that the Earth isn't rotating.
http://skepchick.org/2012/02/scientist-finds-the-earth-isnt-rotating/OK, I know that its 30 minutes long and you have better things to do with your time like figuring out who youre going to vote for in the Prezoodential elections at Franklin Park Zoo (um Stella the Red Panda, no duh), but this is important! Oh fine, Ill try my best to sum up the entire video in one sentence:
The Earth isnt rotating because if it was, wed all be motion sick from moving at 1,000 miles an hour.
That is the argument, re-stated again and again, through all 30 minutes of the video. Go on, have a look. If you must skip most of it, at least dont you dare miss the part around the 23-minute mark where its just a string of videos showing people falling off things.
fernieboy100 maintains that the Earths atmosphere is not a solid it is a gas (note: this has been confirmed by godless heathen scientists). When a hot air balloon is hanging in the air, the Earth isnt spinning beneath it. Scientists would tell you that this is because the Earths atmosphere moves along with the rotation of the Earth, but fernieboy100 proves conclusively that the gas around a solid does not move with the solid.

Proof positive that the Earth is flat.

(593 posts)We knew the Earth was round hundreds of years before Jesus was born. And yet some Americans actually think the world is flat. During the era of Copernicus when we figured out that the earth was spinning around the sun the Catholic church had a hugely complex theory to explain the earth being the center of the solar system. They fought heliocentrism for hundreds of years. Apparently the battle isn't over yet.

(113,130 posts)the solar system is careening around the galactic core or how fast the galaxy, itself is moving. Why, we'd all get blown off at that speed!!
Dumb people sure are entertaining.

(6,271 posts)Or whether, like the sun, different parts rotate at different speeds. Probably it does, but if it doesn't it might explain how the earth's magnetic field flips every so often.

(14,860 posts)IIRC, the mantle has currents and convection, which would create different speeds in different places. If that's true, then there wouldn't be much reason for the liquid outer core to rotate at a uniform rate across its surface. No idea about the inner core though. It has to rotate, but I have no idea how fast. I also read somewhere that the inner and outer cores rotate at different speeds.
ETA: I looked it up and found this--http://www.livescience.com/9313-earth-core-rotates-faster-surface-study-confirms.html I slapped my forehead when I read it too (figuratively), because of course a liquid iron outer core would generate a magnetic field that interacts with the inner core, potentially affecting its rotation.
EATA: I meant to say a liquid iron core rotating at a different speed than a solid nickle-iron core.

(6,891 posts)crust. Enough so, that it amounts to an extra core rotation about every 900 years.

(14,860 posts)The obvious answer is Intelligent Falling; the only theory that takes God into account.
IF is best explained by starting with gravitation and realizing what the "G" in both Newtonian and general relativity stands for. All evidence for gravitation is also evidence for Falling, and Falling goes the extra step of explaining the "why."
I expect my Discovery Institute grant and/or Templeton prize any day now.

(2,560 posts)Has this bozo never been on a bus, tram, train or plane? If you've ever travelled on a plane, you know that if you get out of your seat to go to the toilet, are immediately swept to the back of the plane at a speed of 800kph. If you survive this, you will be unable to return to your seat. I have travelled many times from Europe to Australia and this has happened to me every time.
OK, I'm bullshitting...but no more than this guy.

(14,860 posts)I don't remember who said it, but it was something like a warning of the recklessness of a train going 15 mph because everyone would suffocate, presumably because it's impossible to breathe the stationary air when moving that fast.

(2,560 posts)Of course, that meant entire populations would perish when a decent wind was blowing.
And they did, didn't they? Or was it only those with their backs to the wind?
