Why is Bill Gates the bogeyman?
Is there some weird conspiracy theory that I'm (thankfully) unaware of?

(41,303 posts)It may well be that the current American education system is not the best; but 'market-driven' reforms; constant testing and threatening of teachers; treating schools as businesses, etc. have had a very bad effect on education here in the UK, and no doubt elsewhere.
I doubt that Bill Gates is the root cause, however. This has been going on for a long time.

Bill Gates, I honestly believe, is well intentioned. However, there's a reason that random middle school English teachers don't get to run multi billion dollar tech companies, and vice versa. Bill Gates doesn't actually know much about American education, what is wrong with it, or how to fix it.
