Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumOk, I've aired my grievances at Festivus.
Now I'm ready to move on and pretend I care, or even believe, that baby jesus was born. I'm a sucker for a good Christmas ham. Bourbon glazed, this year. It's worth pretending.

Ferrets are Cool
(21,957 posts)It has nothing to do with a fictional baby born on the 25th of December. Besides, I love given gifts.

(6,810 posts)Just watch me at easter as my wife grills up her delicious lamb chops with a salt, garlic powder and tarragon rub. Perfect medium rare, lightly blanched asparagus with lots of butter and creamy mashed potatoes.
If I were invited to an eid feast, I'd go to that too. I can be very polite to religious folks if they want to feed me!! I'd have to sneak my beer in a big gulp cup, though. 😆

(17,431 posts)I have assimilated your pagan ritual into my rich family traditions and made them my own.
However I reject all religious origins.
But thank you for Rudolf and frosty and Charlie browns Christmas specials.

(6,810 posts)The original Dr. Seuss's Grinch! I looked forward every year to it and no mention of religion at all.

(11,399 posts)I love secular Christmas. Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch, they are all part of my Christmas. We give gifts, decorate a tree make good food. It's fun with family time.

(4,873 posts)Aside from the name, very little of Christmas whoop-de-doo has anything at all to do with Christianity. Christmas trees, lights all the hell over the place, feasting, even giving gifts are pagan celebrations to convince the sun to come back. And by glob it works! Every year about this time the hours of daylight (in the Northern Hemisphere anyway) grow ever greater. The person in charge of the sun is pleased by our merriment and reminded by all those lights that it's time to rouse our big star out of her winter slumber.

(2,124 posts)humans have celebrated the winter solstice for millennia prior to Christian misappropriation.
Those of us who are free from religion are just as entitled to celebrate this time of year as theists.

(6,810 posts)Just another day, but both of us like to celebrate. I'm sorry about your family and friends. Getting older can really suck. My only condolence for getting old is that I won't be around to witness the further destruction of this earth by rich and powerful forces.
And on that note, Happy Holidays? Maybe?

(6,810 posts)But, I like ham and any excuse to eat and drink.
I do the food and cookies part, even do gifts though they don't get sent until January. I'm more on the Festivus train than anything!
Whatever I find entertaining is flow with which I go!

(6,810 posts)who loves a good party. For any reason. Like I said, I'd love to be invited to an Eid celebration, if I could smuggle in a big gulp cup full of beer, lol.

(92,668 posts)My belief system has a name but I don't get into the religions though I sang in choirs for many years, even performed as Cantor at a Jewish Sater one year. It was because I like the music for technical reasons. A lot of seriously good music used to be composed in religious context and the only way you usually get to perform them is in a choir which always ends up being somehow tied to churches. Just have to navigate around the demons.

(6,810 posts)Art works, sculptures, buildings, music. Even some literature. So, I guess it isn't all bad. Have a good holiday, especially if you don't have to work.
