Have you seen that ad saying pro abortion rights groups are burning down churches? I saw it yesterday and was dumbfounded.
The supposed reason the pro abortion rights folks are burning churches is because of the Supremes overturning Roe. And it's all Biden's fault?
Yeah right, because Biden has a direct hotline to all the people in the US who want to keep their bodily autonomy and have sex. Such lies are being spread by the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is as bad as Trump, maybe worse because they try and pass themselves off as moral arbiters.
The churches were burned and it hasn't anything to do with Roe. They think the same person did some of them. A lot of the images are from before the Supreme's ruling. But it had nothing to do with abortion rights. The Catholic Church is lying about it so they can get the Christians all stirred up to come out and vote for forced birth candidates......the GOP. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/sep/01/catholicvote/catholic-groups-ad-attacking-biden-overstates-role/
The Catholic Church, that supposed moral authority that spouts a Bible that says, "though shall not bear false witness." That's exactly what the Catholics are doing through their commercials, bearing false witness. Literally lying about evidence that could become a legal matter. They are no better then the weirdos on QAnon.
The Catholic Church is betting on the fact that if you believe in talking snakes and magical spirits, then believing their lies spewed by to their Catholic lobbying group is easier.
I guess we should have expected them to sink so low. It seems there is no sin they are unwilling to commit to get what they want.
This is an older story mid August 2022 but I thought we Atheist should have our own thread about it.
Another example of why religions are so toxic.

(4,074 posts)In the Vedic epic, the Mahabharata, the setting for the Bhagavad Gita, we are told this story.
In the then world-war at Kurukshetra, where Lord Krishna drove Arjuna's chariot, there was a great warrior on the side opposed to Arjuna.
There was also an elephant in the battle with the same name as the warrior, Ashwatthama.
Krishna told Yudhishtira, who was known for never lying, to announce that Ashwatthama had been killed.
Reluctantly, Yudhishtira loudly announced in the din of the battle, "Ashwatthama has been killed" and softly added, "either man or elephant ".
A lot of other stuff also happened.

After hundreds of unmarked graves were found at Canadas former Catholic-run residential schools, churches in First Nations territories have been destroyed by suspected arson
As Canada grapples with the discovery of more than 1,000 unmarked graves of Indigenous children at the sites of former residential schools, many have directed their grief and anger at the Catholic church, which ran more than half of the schools across the country.
In recent weeks, nearly two dozen churches have been burned or vandalized across the country eight of which occurred in First Nations territories.

But in the US, that's not what's happening and the Catholics know it.

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2and He began to teach them, saying:
3Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
All the MAGAs know are a couple of the 10 commandment.

(113,130 posts)Toxic Christianity says once you're "saved," you can lie, cheat, steal, and even murder if you do it for Jebus--the god of assisted living in a nutshell. Pretty seductive stuff, no? You embezzle thousands from a children's charity and as long as you tithe part of it to your crooked minister, it's just peachy.
The RCC's scientific acceptance and moral authority end where women begin. Period, full stop. Francis might be a breath of fresh air compared to most of those conservative old geezers, but he's still got a blind spot big enough for half the human race, something that should never be forgotten. Catholics know this and are more likely to be pro choice than their Protestant cousins.
Burning the churches down is a loser's game, it just makes the faithful angry and defensive and more likely to cling to ecclesiastical nonsense. It's cowardly and doesn't work. Speaking out in them is a revolutionary act. So is getting up and walking out during an offensive sermon, if one is tongue tied in front of a priest/preacher.
Perhaps some fine day when millennial fever is remembered only by those Gen Xers left eating their pureed peas in an old folks' home, those glittering megachurches will be entertainment venues and people will go back to being sensible sorts of are religious on Sunday mornings and sinners the rest of the week. Until then, calling them out is the best we can do. Red paint on the worst of them wouldn't be out of the question, but that, too, will just make them angry and defensive.
