100 of them walked out in protest.
When students arrived at the event in the school's auditorium, they were instructed to close their eyes and raise their arms in prayer, Mays said. The teens were asked to give their lives over to Jesus to find purpose and salvation. Those who did not follow the Bible would go to hell when they died, they were told.

(4,899 posts)They did this to my daughter in Tennessee in the 80s and 90s. They did it to me in the 60s in Arkansas. What's NEW is that a hundred kids walked out in protest! Right on!

(18,023 posts)Fortunately we moved when I was 6 to SoCal. SoCal ain't great (it was better back then), but it is infinitely better than Huntington. After we buried my dad and then my grandma, my mom and I have absolutely no interest in ever returning.
So long as you are of the right tribe (religion and race), the people can be very warm. They stepped up to host an after-funeral reception at my grandma's funeral (we had planned to have some pizzas at the motel with immediate family).

(6,675 posts)for services. Especially around Easter and Christmas. No permission from our parents was asked for. We also had religious speakers at assemblies in our jr and sr high schools. Put me off churches and religion for the rest of my life. Nothing like going to church to make you hate churches.
