(8,541 posts)if I believe there's a god and there is one I'm ok...if I believe there's a god and there isn't one then I'm still ok...but if I don't believe in god and there is one then I'm screwed (bases covered)...however, if there is a god then he/she has a shit-ton to answer for... example: if god created man (and woman) then was it really necessary for him/her to "make" a Donnie, a Mitch, a Ted, a Josh, a GOP?...to paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld "what's the deal with that???"

(9,116 posts)There are thousands of religions, and thousands of possible gods. Many of these gods don't like it when people believe in the wrong gods. Even if you believe in a god, your bases are most certainly not covered, as there is a strong statistical likelihood that you don't believe in the correct god.

(15 posts)God was created by thought. All those prayers to it are worthless. It is an invention brought about by fear of the unknown. It is an illusion. Believing in a god is a futile exercise. There is no redeeming value for this belief. But if you want to subscribe to the fantasy and subject your mind to the delusion, go right ahead. It wont make any difference in the way that things are in life and in the world. All that will happen is that you will end up senile because you will repeat this belief until your mind becomes dull through lack of insight, perception and intelligence.

(2,343 posts)I would happily stroll up to it and kick the shit out of it for being such a worthless asshole. Then, I'd gladly walk the highway to hell. That's where all the good music is gonna be anyway.

(4,033 posts)...any and every christian out there (or anyone else for that matter).
So many gods to choose from, and thus so many ways to pick the wrong one, that selecting 'none' has the same odds of being correct or incorrect as any of the other choices.
One could also make the argument that selecting any of the newer deities (I'm looking at you moses/jesus/mohamid/mr. smith) reduces your chances of being correct.
I guess I'm somewhat of an originalist when it comes to gods.

By that time, I will have lived a life of sleeping in on Sundays, not paying money I couldn't afford to listen to some gasbag in a grandiose building, and no fear of judgment or hell, so when my time comes, I'll exit peacefully, without dread.
That's the flip side to Pascal's Wager, you know.
But thanks for playing, we haven't had a Pasca's Wager chew toy in a long time.

(6,675 posts)did not want to be worshipped. Certainly not like people do in churches. I also believe everyone goes to 'heaven'. Hell was made up by humans. I have felt too many spirits who have died to believe we just die. But, then who knows, we just might.
