Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumI finally meet a fellow Atheist and her like minded sister!
Don't know if I've posted about it or not here, but I love talking about it.
It felt so good talking to them. Didn't have to feel like I had to watch what I might say like I do around believes.
Their was a guy walking around with this, "The End Is Near. Repent" sign and had us talking. That's when she said she was an Atheist. My heart skipped a beat. A fellow person with similar beliefs!
I know I had to have sounded dumb, "YOU TOO!"
Since I have come out, sorta speak, and Covid, I have yet to meet any other with similar beliefs. Sounds stupid, I know, but it made me feel less alone.

sorry... a little humor for these dark days... and I'm agnostic, which is its own set of problems.

Less likely than African Americans, Muslims, LGBT, etc!

(15,042 posts)It blew my mind, but it shouldn't have surprised me given this country's religious history and how white evangelicals put the orange idiot in the WH -- i.e., Clinton would've won the "white vote" too if none of them had voted.
Edit: Most Republicans believe what they WANT to believe too.

(9,078 posts)type ads to take on the phony evangelicals. They are so solidly supported by large corporations, and I'm sick of them having power, when they should be hiding in a cave praying for their lost souls.

(24,587 posts)Depending on where you live, you should be able to find a free thought or Atheist group in your area, and if there isn't one, the platform provides the ability to form your own.
Groups for every interest, from knitting to Atheism, Art to Agnosticism.
I went to a few meetings here in Jax, but my schedule is so unpredictable it was difficult making any plans, so I have let it go. But for those with normal lives, it is an interesting resource.

(14,120 posts)Atheists are taking it seriously, but churches are not.☹️
Heck a lot of groups aren't. That's why Arizona is starting to spike again.

(4,262 posts)Siblings were quite, and a friend was too. It felt like they were the ones walking on eggshells, not me. No one asked me why. I am not one to start an argument, but do not piss me off by repeatedly disrespecting someone who is not able to stand up for themselves.
The more I let people know my feeling about the Bible and organized religion the easier it becomes and I am not combative or argumentative. We all believe in different things for different reasons. I have thought a lot about when I started to question religion and my earliest memory is from about age 11. Every question I asked was never really answered, just one platitude after another.
