Religion in the Comics - 54

Here's an odd one from 1943. The religious element in this one is practically nil, but I just had to share. This story creeps me out on several levels. First, the artwork is disturbing. Big eyes, many close-ups of wierd expressions, tilted structures, a preponderance of curves to the near exclusion of straight lines. It's like the artist was working under the influence of bad mushrooms.

The story is a variation on the legend of Rudolph. That doesn't bother me, but the story takes a morbid turn that is hardly appropriate for a children's story. It's a subject that I don't believe gets talked about in this forum, which is why I present it for discussion.








As an atheist, I don't think I would ever consider suicide. This is the only ride you get, so why not get your money's worth? I can see myself as an invalid still getting enjoyment following world events and listening to my Beatles records.

It's a different question for believers though. I'm curious as to how they view it.
