Now I've heard it all.

Well, not really, because every day, I hear more incredible beliefs. But this one is so bad that it is scary to think that someone said this seriously.

Listening the talk radio, and they were talking about man-made climate change. And how it is impossible for man to change the climate.

A man called in to enlighten all of us listening. The scientists are all wrong. In fact, the only science that we need is in the Bible. (Yes, he said that.) We should be teaching science from the Bible, not from science books written by man. If you read the Bible, you will find that God promised us that he would not destroy the earth again after the Great Flood.

I am sure that you will find many other scientific gems in the Bible. The Bronze Age/Iron Age was a time of much greater scientific understanding than we have today. Things like that women are unclean and cannot be in the company of men during their menstrual cycles. Or that shellfish and cloven hoofed animals should not be eaten.

I think we need a list of all the scientific facts in the Bible. I wish this caller would have expanded on all the facts in there. Just out of curiosity.

His stupid friends and their support of policies and politicians that destroy the Earth are doing a fine job all by themselves... no mythical being needed.

is a couple of thousand years, when they have incorporated climate change into their myths.

But, yes, I guess that god isn't the destroyer this time...unless we can blame him for changes in weather patterns. Oh, wait, isn't that how the flood happened?

so is an overheated planet close enough to "fire" that we can say that the Bible had it right? This seems to be the way things go with stories in the Bible.

And if that is the case, are these people just fucking with us? Do they WANT it to happen so that the Rapture will come quicker and they can be with God, fighting the good war? (Same as why the Zionists want Israel to gain all of their historic land?)

I was only taking the opportunity to point out that the guy who said we should teach a Bible based science curriculum was wrong on what the Bible says about the whole earth destruction thing.

Either 1 or 2 Peter says the sky will roll up like a scroll, and the elements melt with fire. (Paraphrasing here, and probably badly).

Also...I just realized this was posted in Atheists & Agnostics. I didn't intend to intrude uninvited. My apologies.

The very fervent fundies literally believe that going to heaven is more real than life on earth, and their job is to be among the Raptured to help their God restore Heaven on Earth.

"Rapture comes, we go to heaven, God kills the non-devote people on the Earth, turns it into paradise and we go back."

I have listened to this crap from people down here in the South.
It is frightening how much they believe it.

Wasted their life in pursuit of something that doesn't exist....and no do over.

Too bad they have to hurt other people in their desire to "help God" get that Rapture thing going. As if God, if he did exist, would need help from them.

There are stretches of road where all I can get is right wing country stations or religious stations. Hate it if I forget to bring along an audio book or my own music - I'm stuck with that crap. Sometimes it's OK for a laugh, but I can't stand it for more than a few minutes.

My new (used) car has Sirus XM. Kind of expensive but I might have to give it a try.

Now that I'm living in South Catatonia. In letters to the editors of the local rags, we usually get a twofer - if some savant is going to lecture on the impossibility of climate change, they usually throw in a free bonus rant about how evolution is bogus and completely unscientific. It was all a plot by Darwin and Karl Marx to make Baby Jesus cry. Or something like that.

One of these recent rants was written by a guy who also claimed he was a scientist. He didn't specify, so I have no clue what kind of "scientist" he might be. Of course, LTTEs are a lot like the internet that way - people can claim to be anything.

Oil company geologists often come to mind. Or maybe the "lawn care specialist" who is a "professional botanist" who mows lawns. I had a run in with one of those...him-that tree is a Sumac. Me-no, it is an Ailianthus. Him-I am a botanist, I know trees (while he is working mowing a field). Me-I am a biologist, and I'll bet you $100. Him-Oh.

I feel for you living in SC, and obviously not in an enlightened area.

Do it!

What could possibly go wrong!

Only use scientific knowledge from the Bible and none of the knowledge that was derived via the scientific tradition that was invented in the 17th century by Bacon, Newton, Descartes and Leibniz.
