Religion in the Comics - 46

Here's a tale that takes some unexpected turns. It's from the 29th issue of Speed Comics, cover dated November 1943.

OK, to be fair, those mean Muslims at the start of the story were actually mean Nazis, but their behavior is familiar with what we know of Islamic societies. Kind of hard to believe that Nazis would try to impersonate Muslims. I don't think using masks is credible here. I also wonder if a Saudi Prince would give one of his daughters to an infidel to marry.

Here is what makes this story relevant to today:

I read an article that told of some soldiers witnessing abuse and rape in Iraq, and being told to not get involved.

This piece of tripe is set in Algiers. A few years later, the men disguised as women would be the Algerian guerillas. The French soldiers catch them by - what else? Noticing their big feet in combat boots, under the burkas.

As shown in the shot below from "The Battle of Algiers" (1966). Well worth watching if you've never seen it. The Pentagon made it required viewing for troops going to Iraq.

Journalist: Don't you think it's a bit cowardly to use women's baskets and handbags to carry explosive devices that kill so many innocent people?

Ben M'Hidi: And doesn't it seem to you even more cowardly to drop napalm bombs on defenseless villages, so that there are a thousand times more innocent victims? Of course, if we had your airplanes it would be a lot easier for us. Give us your bombers, and you can have our baskets.

So, does religion get any blame here? Do all men engage in boy play in Afghanistan?

However the origins of it are from islam. The holy books very strongly denounce women. To the point where many islamic men are made to be disgusted by women and only tolerate them out of necessity. The Afghan "boy play" is a result of this. It is considered better to engage in "boy play" than to sate your sexual urges with women.

Its isn't a better situation outside of Afghanistan though. http://therationalists.org/2015/12/14/swedens-rape-culture/ This is how they treat women of the countries in which they only have relatively small communities. In islamic majority cultures the women are killed while the men go free. There is frankly nothing redeeming about islamic culture.
