(13,029 posts)the folk over in Religion who don't see any harm in appeals to some invented supernatural being whose existence can't even be demonstrated. They have endless rationalizations for the need for and value of "prayer" to which no one else is listening, even to the point of pretending that it's a helpful way of talking to oneself.

(9,693 posts)...Obama made reference to God "using" Dylann Roof (using evil) to accomplish something good (changing people's hearts? removing the Confederate flag?)
Which I think is totally fucked up. It just removes ALL personal responsibility from everyone. We are all nothing but pawns and automatons in some cheesy fucked up tragicomedy.
No, YOU didn't murder those Bible studiers. GOD made you murder those people to accomplish .... what?

(18,219 posts)a woman who was not shot said she is alive "by the grace of God".
I just want to scream at that woman that she is an idiot. A sanctimonious, self-centered idiot.

I had a co-worker who after Sandy failed to hit our area and dumped on New Jersey instead say that her prayers to god kept the hurricane away. When I asked her if the people of New Jersey deserved god's lack of care for them, she said they must not have prayed hard enough. Some "loving" god!
