Franklin Graham pulls bank accounts over same-sex ads

Standard Disclaimer - posted in the Atheists/Agnostics Group, a safe haven though not necessarlly for Graham crackers. Yes, I know "cracker" is a slur, I am one. The White Zone is for loading and unloading only.

Wells-Fargo bank should not get into a moral debate and take sides, says Graham. As he inserts himself into a moral debate and happily take sides.

Franklin Graham is pulling bank accounts from Wells Fargo for featuring same-sex couple in ad

Franklin Graham is calling on Christians to boycott corporations that feature same-sex relationships in their commercials. And he says he’ll do his part by moving all the bank accounts for his two ministries out of Wells Fargo because of its ad featuring a lesbian couple.

““This is one way we as Christians can speak out – we have the power of choice,” Graham wrote on Facebook over the weekend. “Let’s just stop doing business with those who promote sin and stand against Almighty God’s laws and His standards. Maybe if enough of us do this, it will get their attention...”

He wants Christians to stop giving their money to businesses, such as Wells Fargo and Tiffany jewelers, “that use shareholders’ advertising dollars to promote homosexuality. … It’s promoting a godless lifestyle. … A bank should be promoting the best interest rates they’re going to give me and what they can do for me as a business. But they should not be trying to get into a moral debate and take sides.”

Graham specifically objected to a Wells Fargo TV and online ad that features a lesbian couple learning sign language for their adopted daughter. “Hello, beautiful,” the couple in the ad tell the little girl in sign language. “We’re going to be your new mommies.”

go into banks and ask if they discriminate against gay people.

Please do that, then find a large mattress.

has spent 150K supporting the anti-gay marriage amendment in North Carolina. He's also one of the richest evangelists out there so Wells Fargo may actually care about his closing those accounts. Oh, and he's also a dick.

is trying to force WF into reversing their stance on the LGBTQ community. If WF did reverse their stance on the LGBTQ community the bank would stand to lose a lot more accounts. I don't see that happening. Graham is an irrational person who hates some segments of the population. You can't reason with people like him.

For that matter many corporations do not want to discriminate, even those in the LGBTQ community. Good luck with Graham trying to boycott all of them!

Having a equally serious dislike of both Franklin Graham and Wells Fargo, I really can't see the problem.

since he says that "A bank should be promoting the best interest rates they’re going to give me". Since the interest rates are something that the bank is humiliated to tell you on savings type accounts, and they are equally embarrassed at how much they are charging for loan interest, I am not sure that Frankie has the business sense to tell the banks what they should be doing.

Keep reminding us how pig-headed, close-minded, intolerant and bigoted so many Christians are.
Keep on picking at that scab.
We need to be reminded about crap like this, because we have short attention spans.
It took awhile for Ireland to come around.
It'll take this country a little longer, so keep it up.

11. "Chaplain on a pirate ship" - Billy Graham

You know, the guy constantly touted on Certain DU Groups as "a class act," "a real Xian," bla-bla-bla.

Long time ago, I posted in the "R" group that Billy Graham had endorsed GW Bush in the 2000 election. People reacted like I had personally barbecued Bambi's Mom: "Billy Graham is a life-long Democrat!" "He never endorses candidates!"

That crap persisted, even after I linked to a video of the event. Which was all over the Internets. Graham did his usual "cannot endorse" shuck-and-jive. But he made it clear who he was voting for and praised GW to the skies. Graham pulled the same trick with Romney in 2012.

I just stumbled over this French site with lots of well-documented info on Billy Graham's political shenanigans, going back to his Red-baiting in the Joe McCarthy era. And his deep, abiding hypocrisy.

Especially Graham's bromance with Dick Nixon. One example:

His obvious coziness with Nixon did not exempt Graham from the curiosity of one part of the executive branch: the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

“Billy Graham tells me an astonishing thing”, Nixon informed Haldeman on September 13, 1971. “The IRS is battering the shit out of him. Some son-of-a-bitch came to him and gave him a three-hour grilling.”

Nixon was indignant, and came quickly to the point: “Bob, please get me the names of the Jews, you know, the big Jewish contributors of the Democrats...Could we please investigate some of the cocksuckers?” The following day the President’s outrage had not subsided: “The IRS is full of Jews, Bob...That’s the reason they’re after Graham..."

And there's this, regarding Graham's association with Nixon:

Graham had served in effect as the chaplain on a pirate ship.

Very long article, but well worth the read. Especially if you grew up watching Saint Billy's TV Crusades:
