Swedes have been brewing beer since the Iron Age, reveals new evidence


Researchers discovered new evidence that the Swedish have been brewing beer for large-scale productions since the Iron Age. The findings were made in Uppakra, Sweden.

Archaeologists from Lund University working in Uppakra, Sweden confirmed the new findings unearthed apparently shows beer brewing since the iron age.

Experts in archaeobotany have discovered carbonized germinated hulled barley grains in Uppakra, a southern Swedish village known for its archaeological finds.

The study team led by Mikael Larsson of Lund University unearthed multiple kilns, or special ovens dating back to 400 to 600 AD which suggests that the Swedes have been brewing beer in a large scale, possibly for feasting and trading.

The findings were published in the journal Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences.

The Swedish have been chugging back beer by the pint since the Iron Age, as confirmed by new findings unearthed by archaeologists working in Uppakra.

A team of experts specializing in archaeobotany have discovered carbonized germinated hulled barley grains in Uppakra, a village in southern Sweden known for its rich archaeological finds.

The team, led by Mikael Larsson of Lund University, has made the discovery at a site populated by multiple kilns, or special ovens used for drying cereal grains, dating back to 400 to 600 AD.

The findings, which are published in the journal Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences, suggest that the Swedes have been brewing their booze at a large scale, possibly for trading and feasting, for thousands of years.
