Related: About this forumANCIENT EGYPT: 3,500 YEAR OLD ROCK ART WITH EARLY FORM OF HIEROGLYPHS DISCOVERED IN DESERT
BY ARISTOS GEORGIOU ON 6/14/18 AT 8:37 AM
Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered several pieces of ancient rock art from more than 3,000 years ago, according to a statement released by the countrys Ministry of Antiquities.
A joint American-Egyptian research team led by John Coleman Darnell from Yale University discovered the works at an ancient site in Egypts Eastern Desertpart of the Sahara that lies east of the Nile Riverwhich was used as a quarry and a place for manufacturing flint in ancient times.
Several rock slabs were found with paintings and inscriptions on them, which date back to the late Predynastic period (roughly 3,500 to 3,000 B.C) of prehistoric Egypt. According to Darnell, the inscriptions found on the rock slabs represent the earliest form of writing in Egypt, which was a precursor to the hieroglyphic script.
He says the artworks and inscriptions provide important clues to the religion and symbolism of the time, as well as evidence for the interaction of artistic styles between the Eastern Desert and the Nile Valley.

(2,050 posts)1. 3000 to 3500 BC Is 5000 to 5500 years old.
Your title threw me, the Pyramids are 3500 years old and there was lots of writing and art at that time.
Correction needed.

(2,050 posts)3. That's what I figured, the math just didn't add up
In the real world it makes no difference
But if it made me think what? Then everybody should be able to figure it out.
Hopefully they'll find more early info in their investigation, great find.

Constantly, sometimes you just have to read something other than politics.
