Israel was attacked on You Kippur in 1973, and on Simchat Torah in 2023.
Sukkot 2024 saw the elimination of the evil Sinwar.

(2,000 posts)I spent the morning in shul. We sang Hallel, shook the lulav and etrog, had kiddush in the sukkah. (No lunch, we're in Asheville, no water, can't use our kitchen.)
No one had heard the news about Sinwar, services started before the news broke.
On my way home I got a call from my 85 year old friend Joyce, a Catholic and staunch Democrat, who apologized for disturbing me on my holiday. She'd just heard the news, wanted to make sure I knew about it. I was very glad she called to tell me!
I remember last year, during our Simchat Torah celebration there were folks there who hadn't heard about the attack, and some who attended because they had heard about it and wanted to be with others in the Jewish community. We still hope and pray for the hostages safety and freedom. Still, this Simchat Torah will be merrier than last year.
It is the season of our rejoicing.
