Guess that didn't apply to the German colonel who actually made the attempt---
but it applied to a few million other people who didn't....

"Orange Jesus"? Who is that???

In the case of Claus, it would have to be considered as a 'military action'...

But, a wartime offensive, justifiable in my opinion.

but the consequences of that would be toxic to our Democracy. Even if he was eliminated from the political scene, the MAGA ideology would continue. It has always been around in some shape or fashion. In fact, political violence is actually as American as apple pie. But at this point in history I personally think it could spell the end of our Democracy.

As the demographics of the US change, the problem will take care of itself given some time. The changes are inevitable. But assassination of a political leader presents a danger to the very principles of Democracy.

We have very serious problems domestically and internationally and need thoughtful people in charge or we risk the demise our a nation , though quite imperfect, has been the beacon of hope for the entire world for over a century. I just don't think the risk/reward is wise.

Claus von Stauffenberg. That killing would be a military operation. And justified.

He hated Hitler and his gang because they weren't part of the old aristocratic ruling class, like von Stauffenberg. He wanted to reestablish rule by his class.

That would have been better than the Nazis, of course, and his personal courage is indisputable, but it's not clear that, had he succeeded, the war would have ended, or what Germany would have looked like afterwards.

People like von Stauffenberg created the dynamic that helped Hitler seize power. VS should never be revered or worshipped. He started a Nazi and died a Nazi.

Kind to me when I was a little girl. Mrs. Nina - because I had a lisp and it was just easier!

His wife ended up in a concentration camp after the attempt.

She had a soft spot for the American Special Forces officers and their spouses stationed in West Germany.

Big house I got lost in once . . . she put bells on my shoes the next time we visited. And she had the Concentration Camp tattoo. Asshole I was at 4 years old - What is that?

All of that said - The families of the men left behind paid a huge price for that attempt.
