Antonio Brown backs Kyrie Irving in Twitter rant amid Nets star’s anti-Semitism controversy

The controversy surrounding Kyrie Irving’s anti-Semitic tweets has been the center of media attention as of late. To recap: the Brooklyn Nets star tweeted out a movie that had serious anti-Semitic tones. After receiving backlash from many parties, Irving seemingly doubled down during a bizarre media appearance. As a result, the front office suspended the star for a minimum of five games.

Amid all the media drama, a certain ex-NFL star tweeted out his support for the scorned Nets star. Antonio Brown, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers star, went on a rant on Twitter defending Kyrie Irving. In his tweet, Brown called Irving a “superhero”.

It’s worth noting that Antonio Brown is affiliated with Kanye West, who is also embroiled in his own issues regarding anti-Semitism. West also went on social media to support Kyrie Irving during the peak of this controversy. Likewise, Brown also stood by West when athletes like Jaylen Brown and Aaron Donald left the latter’s agency Donda Sports amid all of the backlash.

Floyd Mayweather makes major Kyrie Irving statement

Corporate sponsors like Nike are distancing themselves from suspended Brooklyn Nets star point guard Kyrie Irving after Irving’s social media share of a controversial, antisemitic movie.

Irving is set to lose $2.2 million if his suspension lasts for five games as he must meet a series of team-specified conditions before he returns to play. He has since apologized for sharing the movie on social media.

Controversial rapper Kanye West, who is embroiled in his own antisemitism scandal, has stood by the Nets star. Irving can now count another famous athlete among his supporters: Championship boxer Floyd Mayweather.

“Kyrie, what’s up? I know you’re going through a lot. We had a chance to hang out in 2016 when you represented America [in the Olympics]. When you represented the Red, White and Blue,” Mayweather said in a statement. “You only wanted to be treated fair. I was going to post something on one of my social media pages, but I decided to do it the old school way, and read it out to you because you’re a great person, a great father, a great athlete, and you believe what you believe.

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is currently suspended after showing support for an antisemitic film on social media. He needs to complete six steps in order to even return to the team and it’s frankly unknown if Kyrie will do so.

While there haven’t been a lot of people speaking out on the matter, former NBA star Stephen Jackson, who also is a host of the All The Smoke Podcast with Matt Barnes, came to Irving’s defense in a recent IG post.

“Our dignity is not for sale. Y’all won’t understand now but u will soon. We don’t have the power to force people to apologize for wronging us but the shift is coming. Trust me. It was written. #TeamKyrie L4AWHL4A Only The Righteous.”

To be clear, this isn’t the first time Jackson has stood up for an athlete like Kyrie Irving for allegedly showing support for antisemitism. Back in the summer of 2020, Jackson defended then-Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson for posting an indirect Hitler quote. He wasn’t reprimanded by the NBA and can’t be because he’s no longer part of the league.
