Request for Prayers
I have been receiving shots in my left eye for over a year now. I started having obstructed vision in it. My ophthalmologist diagnosed me as having macular degeneration, but I wanted a second opinion. I went to an eye surgeon at a well respected medical facility. He said it was not macular degeneration, but an abnormal blood vessel that had formed under my retina due to the severe myopia I have had since I was a child. Due to the shots I have had so far, the blood vessel has shrunk. My vision has cleared, which I am eternally grateful to the surgeon and God for. Monday morning I have an appointment to make sure the last shot I had six months ago made what was left go away.
Please pray for me that it did, because I really don't want to have to get another shot. The whole procedure is extremely painful from the numbing process to the actual needle insertion, plus I am always terrified I am going to accidentally move at the wrong moment. I also loose half a day because it burns so much after that I have to keep putting wet compresses on it because it stings for hours after the procedure. The last visit he said I might not need one. I am really hoping and praying 🙏 I don't. Thank you❤️!

Also I have had quite a few eye surgeries and they usually have your
head restrained so that you cannot move much.
Try to relax.

(88,697 posts)I sympathize - having spent more time with my ophthalmologist(s) than I EVER thought I would. But it still makes me marvel at whats possible with modern medicine.
I hope your healing comes WAY sooner than you were expecting.
Hugs!!!

I have a similar condition. In my right eye (OD), an artery expanded to block a vein (a branch vein occlusion (BVO)). I was sent to a retina specialist, who first tried to fix the problem using laser surgery. He next started giving me shots. He said it usually takes about ten shots. It took many more shots in my case, but my condition eventually stabilized so that I no longer needed any shots.
My right eye remained stable for several years. A few years ago, the vitreous in my right eye detached. The vitreous is normally attached to the retina. When my vitreous detached. it pulled the retina away from the macula, which led to bleeding under the retina. I am again receiving shots, but the medication is much more effective than the medications that were available for my first round of shots.

(12,642 posts)O St Lucy, you preferred to let your eyes be torn out instead of denying the faith and defiling your soul; and God, through an extraordinary miracle, replaced them with another pair of sound and perfect eyes to reward your virtue and faith, appointing you as the protector against eye diseases. I come to you for you to protect my eyesight and to heal the illness in my eyes.
O St Lucy, preserve the light of my eyes so that I may see the beauties of creation, the glow of the sun, the colour of the flowers and the smile of children.
Preserve also the eyes of my soul, the faith, through which I can know my God, understand His teachings, recognise His love for me and never miss the road that leads me to where you, St Lucy, can be found in the company of the angels and saints.
St Lucy, protect my eyes and preserve my faith. Amen

I have neovascular macular degeneration or 'wet amd' in my left eye, which is by definition abnormal, leaky blood vessels that grow and continue to grow in the eye. This disease untreated causes blindness. I have been receiving injections every few weeks since my diagnosis. This is my take:
1. My treatments are completely painless, as they should be. These injections are considered a 'surgical treatment' and patients are prepared accordingly including numbing medication. The fact that you have ANY pain is unacceptable.
2. Wet amd is a serious eye disease that must be treated. My strongest recommendation to you is to make an appointment with the BEST retina specialist in your area.
3. Don't delay too long and please let us know how it goes. With the correct treatment this disease is manageable and you will keep your eyesight. But, you need a highly respected Retina Specialist to sort out this mess for you. Once you do that, you will be OK.

(34,185 posts)Luckily, we have the supermen of eyes here
in Austin, so I've resolved most of my issues
or am able to see well in spite of them...
nearsightedness -- got Lasik
cataract -- lasik in right eye
pucker in my right retina -- not a serious problem yet
but if it gets worse, the doctor can make glasses for it.
Ocular migraines... mostly resolved by taking enough
magnesium and riboflavin.
Ocular rosacea -- resolved with antibiotic ointment
and steroid drops.
And don't even get me started on the Meniere's in
my left ear. I've had the steroid shots in my ear,
and that's helped a lot. If it gets worse, I guess I'll
have to get the surgery, but I hope not.
Old age aint for sissies, that's for sure.

(1,214 posts)Someone here said the shots shouldnt hurt at all. I disagree. The numbing drops really help but it still hurts and when the numbing drops wear off, it really hurts. My take is that for me it isnt so awful I wouldnt do it, but Im not anxious about it. I just zone out. My suggestion is that you should talk to your ophthalmologist and your regular doctor and see if you can get some anti-anxiety drugs to calm you down. That might make it more tolerable.
Best of luck. I hope it goes well in the future and it isnt necessary.
