I need a Christmas miracle

on the order of "Carol Brady gets her voice back just in time to sing the Christmas solo at church."

Anyone have any quick remedies for sudden onset laryngitis? (Already maxed out on Mucinex, and taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection which, though troublesome, hadn't impacted my ability to sing. Eating lots of garlic and hot spices too.)

I wouldn't be so panicky, but there's a fee attached to the singing, which I've already spent on Christmas loot for hubby.

And really, if worse comes to worst I can send Mister as my replacement and keep the money in the family.

But I just want to feel better anyway!

They type from the health food store in the old fashioned little yellow box?

My husband was stage director for a musical and that's what all the actors used before they went on stage. They are great and so mild.

4. this is going to sound awful and let me STRONGLY preface it with the following:

DO NOT SWALLOW!!

Take about 1/4 cup of organic apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp pf salt
1 Tbsp cayenne

Heat the mixture to just below boiling. It'll have your house smelling like a german pickle factory. Let it cool down a bit to just a temperature a hot as you can stand it.

Gargle with the mixture every hour on the hour until the swelling and hoarsness goes away. It WORKS but it tastes like a H.A.M.

Again, DO NOT SWALLOW!! Trust me..

5. There is a chinese patent medicine called white flower oil

I put a couple of drops in a glass of water and then slowly swallow so the water coats my throat. This has helped me and others.

Also, (not to be used at the same time as the white flower oil) I use a homeopathic remedy called lachesis mutus. Works well for me. Local heath food store should have it. It's good to see if your other symptoms make it sound like a good match.

Here is a good article of 22 remedies for laryngitis

Good luck!

I just have that feeling like if I take too deep of a breath, I'll have a mother of a coughing fit. But I don't sound like a frog yet. If I get past today I can lay on the couch and watch movies for the next week!

7. Neti pot

Remedy #1 - Get a neti pot at your drugstore, they're about $12 at CVS. Use it to rinse out your sinuses. It's amazing.

Just remember if you live anywhere in or near Louisiana, use distilled water or boiled then cooled water in the neti pot to prevent a serious amoeba infection.

Remedy #2 - Ginger tea. Twinings lemon ginger tea is very good, but you can also use a small piece of peeled ginger root. Add a little honey to the tea.

Remedy #3 - Hydrogen peroxide. Fill a small glass or up with 1/3 peroxide, 2/3 water, it doesn't have to be exact. Dip cotton swabs in the mixture and use to gently wipe inside your ears. Then dip cotton swabs in the mixture and wipe out the insides of your nostrils. Finally, gargle with the remaining peroxide mixture.
This last one is best done at the first sign of a cold. The peroxide kills germs, and I've fought off many a starting cold by doing this.

Good luck with the singing!

A friend of mine who sang in clubs said it helped him a lot when his voice was overused or tired.

It usually works. I also like olive oil. Just a quick, half ounce shot of it in the mornings really helps me.

freedom from colds and flu (alas, not laryngitis tho): http://amzn.com/1463773447

Thinking aloud: Marshmallow (herb, not candy) is soothing for mucous membranes, and the combination formula marshmallow and fenugreek is good for reducing phlegm and mucous: http://www.mynsp.com/natural-health-solutions/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=843. Ginger -- as tea or in capsules -- is also good for reducing phlegm and mucous.

A truly excellent thing to have on hand for all manner of infections (it's saved me lots and lots of money on antibiotics) is this high tech version of colloidal silver: http://www.mynsp.com/natural-health-solutions/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=4274

And of course, I personally wouldn't do withut Echinacea (esp. in combo with Goldenseal) in my home which I've found pretty fabulous for both bacterial and viral infections of all sorts: http://www.mynsp.com/natural-health-solutions/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=3180

I've provided my Nature's Sunshine website links, but most of these things are available at most healthfood stores (well, except the Silver Shield unless the store carries Nature's Sunshine Products).
