I dedicate this thread to all you wonderful souls who post here!! I usually lurk here but wanted to give back to you for inspiring me so many times, always at the right time, always with the right words--thank you.
Here is a list of my favorite visionary art websites--where I go for inspiration and good dreams
http://iasos.com/artists/ --very cool website, I just checked the new artists and they are worth a look.

(29,414 posts)and I would definitely call them "visionary"
Alex Grey (you've probably seen his art used on magazine covers and elsewhere)
Mahmoud Farshchian - Most Americans have probably never seen Farshchian's work, and if so, they're really missing out
Here's an example:
felix_numinous
(5,198 posts)Yes I have seen Farshchian's art--it is so dreamy and otherworldly. I don't know too many people familiar with him.
I've--always--wanted to go to Alex Grey's Chapel of Mirrors, I have his DVD and book of prints and they are so inspirational.

incorporates human form too, which can be really beautiful-but I leave off when it starts getting rough. Interesting that visionary art does venture into fantasy, sci fi and erotica a bit, all these genres overlap at some point --- like Frank Frazetta http://www.frankfrazetta.net/ Boris and Julie Vallejo http://www.imaginistix.com/ and Louis Royo http://www.luisroyofantasy.com/en/index.php?page=home --and so many others.
I used to buy art books like spectrum fantasy art--just for the cool stuff, but had to wade through increasing amounts of horror which is not my preferred genre.
I'm going to date myself and post my early favorite artists--this is the guy who started it all:

LOL I was just pondering why he would do a drawing of scissors, and wonder if it had to do with the fact he does so much collage. They do look like a really good sharp pair of scissors, and he seems to be celebrating that! I have felt this good finding a good quality pen or set of pencils!! Yay!!

(5,198 posts)and her discussion about her heirophant card design completely aligns with what I was meditating on just last night. There is so much polarization and stress in society right now that my instinct is to compartmentalize my relationships with people who share the same pursuits. To experience the world differently one's whole life, there is a constant need to discern what to expose and what to just stay quiet about. I am still learning this
I was compelled to look up this card, it is shown at this link:

(5,198 posts)thank you PufPuf23!! Pablo Amaringo was a great shaman and artist! Right now I am taking Amazon herbs and they are really helping me. I saw a shaman from Peru in the Fall and he said that the plants of the Amazon, being the oldest they are the wisest plants. They have seen the most global changes and environmental changes of any, so contain their chemical adaptations that helped them survive for millennia. It made so much sense.
The art that is communicated from these plants is so beautiful, and not surprising, that all life is like a tapestry woven together

2012.05.06
from the shadows across my experiences, i fell from grace
innocence faded, as i jaded with each collected trace
in deep pain, i vomited and projected as i fled
my soul not seeking the food it was fed
my salvation seemed elusive
and hampered by becoming reclusive
as i withdrew from majesty and interrelation
seeking relief and solace from my dark interpretation
when only a flicker of my light remained
as my soul screamed from the pain unnamed
loving energy enchanted my deeper perspective
as i embraced healing as critical and essential objective
without my own guidance recognized, i sought tools
embarking upon dark journey without definitions or rules
holosync, hemi-sync, journeying drums and past life regression
all valued in limited measure, nurtured and dissolved heavy depression
soul retrieval and gestalt therapy each further support
as i disconnected from the media's ghastly evening report
removing the mercury and abandoning allopathic faux care
further detoxified, rectified and electrified to point of feeling fair
yet, ever more was revealed with each layer excavated
and the deepest conditioning was indoctrination related
these roots were deepest and required extensive re-framing
of the nefarious presumptions, beliefs, truths and memes remaining
with some of these webs untangled, i still feel mangled
yet now as love peeks through, the balance is much easier to do
ms. may, as your art activates further healing,
you receive my deepest gratitude for the feeling![/center]

(5,198 posts)to dive into your blog. I *asked* for more light--and this week---I have been deluged with books, events, stumbling across seers, insight that is so right-on (and Kathleen's art and your poem today!!!!!!!!!!!!!)--and I just wish I could clone myself so I can make enough room for this GIGANTIC download!!
This information about deprogramming--to me is not only mental but I am getting that LIGHT itself, being conscious, HAS the information needed to feed our cells and help them reweave themselves in accordance with the environmental changes. (I hope my writing is clear) Much of my focus is transforming my cells--and ALLOWING it in, staying vigilant about what stories I tell myself and how often my conditioning comes up. I actually had to move from the East Coast to help me shift, for me it was hard to do there.
I am soooo grateful for everyone here--some days I think I don't want to return to DU--it can be pretty brutal, but ASAH keeps me coming back!!!

This one is a very cool depiction of space travel! Sometimes it's good to get a little perspective--and like an old friend used to say "You know what I think, I think we're just a tiny part of a giant chair leg or something"

Enlightenment of the Dominators by Maura Holden
Oil on panel / collection of the artist
From her website:
Today there are more talented fantastic and visionary artists than I ever thought I would see. It is a truly fabulous time to be here. For one thing, the movement is global, largely thanks to the internet. Artists with e-mail can communicate and send pictures around the world easily and instantly. Now, regardless of country and connections, we are all on a more level playing ground, and art lovers have a better chance of seeing the work of great artists who are unrecognized and/or of modest means. Of course, some of us are very enthusiastic about using the web tool, and some of us would rather just paint. Just painting was always my preference? Only in the past six months have I learned to use a computer and cobble together a simple website and from most accounts people believe I have suddenly fallen from the sky! Out of the blue, my work is accessible to many more people; instantly I am able to communicate with other artists, art lovers and people in the industry; the results have exceeded my every expectation.

(29,414 posts)Though, with limited access at work, I don't post to DU so much, and then I'm too tarr'd when I get home to do much online, either. I'm kind of surprised I've posted today at all, as I'm running on fumes right now. Only a little sleep last night due to my a/c being out. Fortunately, it's working tonight, and I'll be able to get to bed earlier
Of course, there's still far more in this thread than I can give enough time to, and one reason why I like to see it active. Plus, we've got newer members perusing here and that many more to offer their tastes in art

(5,198 posts)Thank you Kentauros--this is an awesome site, with a lot to read:
Geometry is a vast field of study and Sacred Geometry is a term used to indicate a particular field where the qualitative as well as quantitative elements are addressed. Other terms for this study include:
ancient geometry: many ancient traditions used this form of geometry
organic geometry or bio-harmonic geometry: the geometry of nature
archetypal geometry: illustrates the self-organizing forces of creation
classical geometry: all can be reduced to divisions of circle and sphere
philosophical / theosophical geometry: the nature of creation
universal geometry: because it pervades the universe
inter-dimensional geometry: functions on all levels of creation
Sacred geometry is a universal language that describes the inner workings of nature and the intrinsic order of the universe. It is the natural sanction that unites all forms of life
from microbes, plants, animals and humans to the motions of the planets and stars.

(29,414 posts)I only knew about him for the videos he did with Goldman's music. And, I've been reading about Sacred Geometry off and on for the past decade, and possibly longer without knowing what it was. I'll definitely have to delve into it deeper.
There's an excellent (and fairly short) book on the subject that I highly recommend. Simply titled, "Sacred Geometry" by Miranda Lundy, and published by Wooden Books. There's a companion book that's quite good as well called "Platonic & Archimedean Solids - The Geometry of Space" by Daud Sutton. Both books give all the basics and then follow those rules into more complex shapes and patterns.
And if you really want to research it, try this site: Arabic Geometry (1st of three pages)
Think that'll keep you busy for another hour or so?

(5,198 posts)for these references!! It is great to be focusing on these subjects, it's better than the mainstream right now. Jupiter in Gemini is definitely affecting me!! I guess it's noticeable.
