What does it mean when you dream about a Ford Fairlane?

I dreamed last night that people from our Unitarian congregation took up a collection to buy me a Ford Fairlane car. The were sold in the 1950s and 60s, but I know nothing about cars or Ford Fairlanes. I wouldn't have recognized one if I saw one.

I dreamed they'd gotten a good deal on it, buying it at a low price even though it had very low mileage. I was moved to tears by this sign that they cared about me. It was teal and white.

In reality I've been struggling with being unemployed for more than 3 years, and it seems to me as though nobody in the congregation gives a damn about me.

My husband and I gave up our 1992 Toyota to cut expenses two years ago. We share a beat-up 7 year old Toyota -- I drive him to the train station in the morning and pick him up in the evening. It's not as though we really need a second car.

The weird part is that, out of curiosity, I just looked up Ford Fairlanes on the internet, and they looked EXACTLY like the one in my dream, except that mine had extra areas of teal-colored trim.

I googled them after reading your post LiberalEsto.

Do you think it might be a dream of yearning for an easier time? or "Ride" of life?

The 50's and 60's are often described as Life was "simpler then" or "halcion days"
The economy was booming and people helped each other out more....or at least thats how alot of folks remember it.

Maybe you are yearning for the stability of those days when the american dream was alive with hope.

Plus the lines and color of the ford fairlane are stylish and very cool! Do you remember if you or someone else drove it? did you dream of riding in it? Or did you just receive it.

Life was definitely simpler in the 50s and 6os than it is now. The future had wide possibilities, unlike now.

In the dream I think I was driving the Ford Fairlane a little. I was also trying to replace a headlight and wondering where I could find one for such an old car.

My dad wouldn't buy Fords for some reason. He always had Dodges. I remember one Dodge (1959?) he owned that had tail fins and was two shades of green.

Thanks for your insights, Howler

I looked up your dream Just to be on the safe side LiberalEsto,
And heres what it said.

Vehicle = your body, your passage/progress through life; a relationship; your job/profession.
Vehicles are associated with central mood/energy of our psyche which transports us from one endeavor/idea/thought to another. Jung says the vehicle represents movement or the manner in which the dreamer lives his/her psychic life, I.E, whether individually or collectively.(bus vs car) spontaneously/mechanically.

Car= Often your body, or your way of moving through life/approaching situations although it can also represent someone else. It may be a message to “shift gears” Are you directing your life? (The driver) or just going along (passenger) with someone else’s ideas perhaps the dream is reminding you not to let yourself be” taken for a ride”

Consider the make of the car and what that particular brand means to you.( safety, prestige, recreation, freedom, luxury?) A car that needs repair lacks horsepower (energy) runs out of gas or malfunctions may represent a health problem and could be signaling that its time to stop ignoring some symptom and see a doctor. It could signal that you need to turn your energies/efforts elsewhere for more success. Don’t forget the goddess Car or Core (the maiden Persephone after whom Chartres was named.

Hmmm Headlights illuminate the road ahead.
I also looked up the colors Green/blue (They do not have Teal listed LOL!)

Green= in color symbologies green represents nature/fertility;feelings/sensations; individualism;life/growth;divinity.Ecclesiastically, it symbolizes the holy ghost . it is the attribute of the greek goddess Venus (aphrodite) in alchemy, green represented the second stage in the process of transformation often associated with the tail of the peacock.

Blue = spirit or the divine, heaven ;intuition; purity your relationship to the virgin Mary.
It also relates to feelings issues about the archetypical mother and your personal mother.
The darker blue gets the more it relates to sadness or depression but can also represent clear thinking or superiority. Frozen ideas/emotions turning blue; something that appears out of the blue
