heads up
for ASAHers venturing into discussionist. A former ASAH troll who was repeatedly banished from DU has shown up over there. I instantly recognized the posting style, complete w/misspelled sun sign: "I am a Sadge Sun, Virgo Moon, and Taurus Rising."

(29,414 posts)The humor-impaired have begun showing up, and well, they're no fun at all
I haven't bothered with the belief forum because there are no safe-havens on Discussionist. There's not much point in opening your heart up unless you're truly into all that political vitriol as we've got in GD already.

(14,881 posts)it's ok. they can be fun to play with too...it's just the the fun goes whoosh right by them, but the rest of them get a double-laugh
kentauros
(29,414 posts)One seems to understand the humor, but is Super Duper Serious about whether the signs are "legitimate" and refuses to play. The others are probably not checking that thread any more so even explaining the point isn't making a dent in their skull densities
One did finally click after Mr Happy explained it, though I did make a dig at that one at the same time, and figure that also drove him/her/it away.
The super-serious ones just make me shake my head, and wonder if there's anything other than The Cable Guy that makes them laugh or even chuckle...

(15,888 posts)I haven't bothered to post about my pagan beliefs as all it would take is one troll and a group of 'hostiles' to turn any real discussion into a bunch of 'it's my way or the highway' threads. There simply has to be another form of moderation other than a seven person jury system where a dominant belief would over-ride that of the minority. I must say that it is amusing watching LG and the knuckle dragers try and reason.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)it appears to me that the atheists and anti-theists are taking over. I don't care how well they beat down the fundamentalists, LG, and/or the knuckle-draggers, those "discussions" just turn into fights and become ultra-tedious.
The lack of safe-havens prevents me from posting anywhere but "fun" and occasionally in "politics" "news" "health" and "life." The rest are already being taken over by the worst of the worst. Although "politics" appears to be quickly becoming a gun-forum
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)there are no "safe havens". You've identified yourself over there. I'm not going to do that. I never had a post locked at DU, or even volunteered for jury. Have done both at the new site.
After being locked out of Health and Science over here, I love the free reign over there. I think you will be surprised that the DU townies are not going to be able to 'secure' that place as they have done here.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)I gave hints, that my account is similar to the one here, but I never said outright "I'm kentauros on DU!" unlike others that have done just that for their identity here.
And I don't know why you don't like safe havens. The place we're talking in right now wouldn't be much of a place at all if we didn't have it set as a safe place to visit. Otherwise, the anti-theists would be coming in and pissing all over, and making fun of anyone and everything. I would like to live without that headache and stress, here and over there.
Doesn't matter much any more, though. The fun-forum is being taken over by old-fogies and the humor-impaired, and it's isn't much fun any more. It's quickly becoming a place for an infrequent visit than a place to hang out.

(14,881 posts)probably Loungers as well
I'm enjoying both places for what they are. My username is totally unrecognizeable there. I have no clue over there if I'm reading something from WS, either.
There are a few humor impaired, but I've seen more that are just as punny as here. And there are some who continue to engage in RW name calling, even as they accuse the "freepers" of being name callers
But I've also seen a few on the right who are both issue-based and interested in engaging in honest discussion. Those are the few I'm concentrating on. The only way we'll ever successfully push back on the 1% is to not get suckered into idiotic flamewars, but find common ground on specific issues.
magical thyme
(14,881 posts)any place where I can find common ground or be of assistance to somebody. Or join in some laughter.
I'm staying out of beliefs because of the lack of a safe forum. I don't have the time or energy to deal with ridiculers or potential trolls
My ID over there is totally different from here, so I'm not real recognizeable unless somebody had been stalking me for years and learned my writing style.
