(29,414 posts)I have some of her music on these various Middle Eastern compilations I have, and now need to find more of her work.
Plus, I read recently that she may not be singing any more due to a pain illness called "burning mouth syndrome" which is sad. Still, what has been recorded is worth having and hearing.
The main audience for Sheilas 13 albums is in the USA. She has a big following in the ever-expanding New Age market. 5 of her albums have been Top 10 in Billboards World Music charts. But she is no longer able to record. In a recent press release for Real World she stated that "Singing is out of the question". In 2010 Sheila Chandra developed Burnt Mouth Syndrome (for which there is no known cause or cure) and now experiences long-lasting neurological pain triggered by speaking and singing. She is effectively mute, and communicates in person largely through handwritten notes and very basic sign language.
I was reading about this ailment, and there have been instances where people have had it just go away (remission?) after seven or eight years. I hope that happens for her.

(4,225 posts)I hope it goes away too! Her voice is profound! I zipped over to amazon and I will be buying several of her c.D's. Tomorrow! I bet she does get better spirit. Would never permanently silence such beauty! NEVER!!!!

(29,414 posts)It's certainly the kind of music for chilling as well as meditating. And the lyrics for "Ever So Lonely" are simple yet amazing. It reminds me of Rumi

(22,298 posts)that play took all my time for 9 months. We opened in November & the show was amazing! I can't believe something I directed turned out so well.
I haven't had any acting parts since Mdme Volanges last April, though. I'm still waiting to hear what plays are being chosen for summer stock.

*( in these parts, a partner - married or not - is called one's "ole man" or "ole lady." As in, "Isn't that Suzie's Ole Man over there actin' the fool?" It's equal opportunity. But I refrain from using the "old" here )
