Ok, my turn: job interview tomorrow!
Could use some mo, please
It's the phone interview portion (step 1) for a project mgmt gig at a small insurance company.
In-person's are Thurs/Fri and then a 'formality' meeting with the CIO early next week.
I realized - and have kicked myself in the ass daily - that I should have JUMPED on that job offer that I had in April and didn't take.
Exciting? No, not particularly, but it's what I know how to do, and what I do well. And it would have gotten me the hell out of here!
So, this gig is the same type of thing which will probably bore me silly in a year but I need to buy time to come up with a long-term plan to relocate which includes exploring where I want to go, saving dough, and looking into other career options.
This contracting gig isn't cutting it - I know absolutely nothing about app dev/dba (and told him so in the interview!) and am not wired for it. I'm much more a project/organizing/interacting type of person and the thought of learning this code-shit drives me nuts.
I have literally spent 35 of 40 hours every week for the last 8 months surfing the web here. Nothing else I can do. Not a human being around (except for the Tea Party nutbag who sits slurping his coffee and moaning/grunting all day with his smelly bare feet emananting from the cube next door).
So, yeah. I could use some mo. Thanks!

Don't hold back, you never know what might be behind Door #2 or where it might lead! At least it might not have smelly feet or teabags behind it! LOL

(12,296 posts)It was pretty intense - "Please give me examples of times in your career you've worked within the specific stages of the SDLC."
Can't imagine what the 'in person' will be like.
But if I get it, it will be SO worth it! Back on a career-ish path, doing what I like to do & am good at every day (documenting, training, organizing), pulling down excellent money, and working for a small-ish company less than 3 miles from home!! Breathing room to plan for the future! YAY!!!
Interesting tidbit ... my first job here in Indy in 1998 paid $18,500 a year. In 15 years, should I get this job, I will have almost quadrupled that. Insane. Looking back on it, how the hell did I (we, actually, I'm a single mom) survive on $18k/yr? Goddess, people are so underpaid in this country.

(4,004 posts)You survived this and probably came across very well.
Okay, fingers still crossed. Let us know how the next phase goes, because 3 miles away sounds like a great commute to me!

(12,296 posts)I'm not nervous, and that makes me nervous.
Knowing how she hit me with the tech questions yesterday, I can only imagine her getting even deeper into geek-speak at tomorrow's meeting. There's only so much I can do on the fly.
But oh well. It's gonna be what it's gonna be.
