HALP Please!

Hello dear ones, I could use your help.

I have had some weird itching thing that has been going on for two days now. Full body, internal, no outward rash etc.

I'm thinking it's either a reaction to my medicine, or a spider bite (there was one lurking around my desk chair) and none of the usual "stop the itchy" treatments are working.

Anything you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.

2. Sounds like an allergy to me.

Is the medicine new? Have you ingested anything that you don't normally eat/drink? If you think it is even remotely possible that it is a medicine please call your doctor!!

I picked up a prescription refill the day this started, and there was also a little spider rummaging around my desk. So it could be either. I have trouble sometimes with cornstarch fillers and if they changed the formula, that may be it. The prescription was filled in two parts, on two separate days, so part of it is from a new bottle. I'm going to try it tomorrow.

3. If you were recently prescribed sulfa drugs

STOP NOW. An allergy to sulfa can have the most dire consequences. Seriously, if you aren't taking sulfa based/derivatives it's probably something else, but if you are, stop.

6. It's my usual pain medication. Thank you for the sulfa warning though!

I have trouble with cornstarch fillers that they use in a lot of medicines. If they bumped the ratio up, or added another filler in a reformulation, I was thinking that it may have been part of the trouble. I'm taking a generic hydro/ibuprophren. This refill has come from two different bottles, so I am going to test the second chunk tomorrow. (Only got a partial refill on Wed when this started and I picked up the second half today)

a ex-friend says what you do, and because the way they (hydros) make him itch, he calls them crawlers

seriously though, Lucinda, the vicadin, etc do have that effect on some. a pain specialist understands better what to do than doctors without similar training. finding the right one may be in your cards. wish you luck.

hoping I'll find the source, and remove the need for the narcotics. I've been on these for over a year now. Not sun.

10. I'm glad you figured it out.

Two friends of mine developed Steven-Johnson Syndrome because of a reaction to sulfa drugs. One died, the other still suffers effects from it when his immunity gets low or if he's under stress. (feels like his skin is on fire)

13. Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. I have heard about sulfa drug dangers

but wasn't aware that they could flare back up from stress. That's really scary.

We have almost lost my sister twice now due to IV contrast, she has a violent reaction. I had a really bad reaction to it myself the last time. No more for me. It's awful to think that things like sulfa meds and contrast, which can be helpful for so many, can be lethal for others. And often you don't know you have a problem, until you're in the midst of a serious reaction.

Avi's death was so sudden. His T count was low after Halloween (he came, helped hang an art show, and marched in the parade as a fairy! :rolf: :cry and his doctor prescribed a sulfa drug as a prophylactic. He died from internal chemical burns in the most hideous way imaginable the week before Thanksgiving in 1991. Now, if I have any kind of teensy reaction to a medication, I cross it off my list as an option. My other darling, my son (we adopted each other) is the one who survived but has intense phantom pain, like phantom limb pain. He barely made it; they called in his birth mother at the last minute to say her goodbyes, but bless his heart! My chosen baby boy is too contrary to die!

I worry about everyone who has to take a lot of medicine. The more types of medicine a person takes, the more likely they are to have an adverse reaction. I know you are taking good care of yourself, Lucinda. Don't forget how important you are to all those who love you. Have a happy Christmas!

8. Liver

A friend's adult son developed an internal itching when he was having a liver disease. He also had other symptoms.
He also found his skin and eyes begin to turn orange. I take it you don't have that symptom.

So far, I have only really noticed the itching, which is still ongoing for me. Started Wednesday night.

9. Pain meds always make me itch

I usually have to figure out which is more important: pain relief or not itching. Both are annoying.
