I have no idea how I'm going to thank the neighbors for all their help in getting it covered because there was no way I could get up on the roof with hubby and help him with that.

Unfortunately, the tree is still right where it is in the picture. The branches on the right hand side have been cut off so we could get the tarp and plywood to lay closer to the roof. I still can't believe we didn't get much water inside the house. We are so thankful that our son didn't even have so much as a piece of insulation or ceiling tile stuck in his hair. He said he grabbed his game and ran. We did hear back from the insurance company and they said it would be awhile before they could get into their system to even see if we had an adjustor assigned to us. She suggested we contact a contractor to have the tree removed and the holes covered up. Then they'd send an adjustor out to evaluate, we can get estimates and choose a contractor for actually repairing the damage.

They're gonna need a crane to get the tree out of there. It was 62' after they chopped the top that was sticking out to the right.

Here's a couple of pics:

so glad to hear you and yours are safe....

My best friend had a BIG pine tree snap off and the top fell thru her roof last year/christmas time... the whole fam was in the living rm, if it had happened five minutes sooner the kids would have been in their rooms...half the house was totaled (the kids rooms and the garage). She was a renter, and while they didn't have to deal with the house damages, they did lose personal items and were even unable to go thru certain rooms till spring when the snow melted...
to this day, she still has dreams of the sound the tree made when it fell... *shudder*

That had to be a terrifying experience for your son.

I hope he is doing well - and that his folks are okay, too - and that everything is repaired soon.

The jolts life gives us sometimes!
