The Icelandic Pagan Association receives hate-mail from reactionary pagans abroad

Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, the high priest of The Ásatrúarfélag, the congregation of practitioners of the ancient heathen religion of Scandinavia and the settlers of Iceland, tells local news service visir.is that the congregation is considering how to react to foreign practitioners of the faith who are unhappy with the liberal beliefs and attitudes of Icelandic religion.

Some foreign pagans disapprove of Icelandic tolerance

The Ásatrúarfélag Association has begun the construction of its temple in Reykjavík. The temple will be the first pagan temple to be built in the Nordic countries in nearly a millennium. The temple has caused considerable interest abroad. Hilmar has heard of foreign groups who intend to visit to temple to consecrate it in their own manner, to "correct" what those groups see as the incorrect tolerance of Icelanders.

And even if I didn't agree with them on certain issues, I would still fully support how they wish to operate the Reykjavik Temple as it is a temple in their land with which to interact with the Gods and Goddesses as they are accustom.

For outside groups to want to barge in and 'consecrate' the temple in the 'correct' way (at least as they see it) is awful*. If they want a temple to consecrate, let them make one in their own backyard for their own use.

Anyway, Thanks for posting this Icymist. It looks like you've been busy today.

* I used 'awful' after several attempts to put how I feel to words and finding that each attempt ended up with long strings of words that no person should hear or read lest their flesh rot away and their very life spark become extinguished.

How everyone just 'knows the truth' and feel a need to 'correct' others. I never thought I would find this type of thinking in Pagan circles, but I was rudely awaken in the late eighties by people who had the nerve to tell me that what works for me isn't correct!

And people wonder why I practice alone or with a VERY close friend.

I've been busy for the last few months over on MIRT. Needed a break today.
