In a lengthy CNN feature on the spread of the Flat Earth community — cheekily titled “The flat-Earth conspiracy is spreading around the globe” — a couple of people attending a recent conference in Dallas, Texas whine about how they’ve lost friends over their lunacy.

“I don’t want to be a flat Earther,” David Weiss says, his voice weary as he reflects on his personal awakening. “Would you wake up in the morning and want everyone to think you’re an idiot?”

“This (conference) is an outlet for a lot of people that might otherwise get ostracized by friends and family and co-workers. When they come here, they know it’s absolutely a safe space,” [conspiracy theorist Mark] Sargent says of this week’s event.

That’s because these guys are dumb.

At least they admit they live in a (flat) bubble. Just because they’re ostracized doesn’t mean their views deserve any respect. In this case, their friends are right to distance themselves. Why surround yourself with people unable to accept even the most basic of realities?

As has been observed elsewhere, cats are proof that the Earth is not flat. If it were, cats would have already knocked everything off and over the edge, just like they do with dressers and counter tops.

These fringe believers must just be looking for attention, or to belong to a group that is on the fringe. No sympathy for them for sure...if they don't want to be ostracized, they need to open up their brain and learn something.

5. A simple look at the sky will convince anyone w/ a rational mind that the earth is round...

after all, why do you see clouds all of the way to the horizon, before the earth circled away from your perspective (15 miles or so)...if the earth was flat, you would only see the clouds immediately above you and that's it. Otherwise, like in the real world, you see layers and layers of cloud cover, going all of the way to the horizon.

I will give the flat-earthers credence on the day we on earth can see and handle a disk magnet with the poles at center and circumference, as they claim is the truth of the flat-earth.

10. Eh, fuck me. First of all, did you look close at the picture of Earth?

The famous one, taken from Apollo 8? That fucker is round BUT FLAT. You can see it as well as I can.

Also, thousands of people disappear every day. You see their pictures on milk cartons. Where else did they go, but off the edge? There is no other reasonable explanation for it.

14. Flat earthers shouldn't support Trump because he "digs coal".

Tell them that if you dig too deep, the earth will have a hole go straight to the other side. The whistling sound will keep everybody up at night.

Of course, Trump supporters are up all night anyway. Those crosses don't burn themselves.
