From the Salt Lake Tribune: Trump taps Latter-day Saint as new national security adviser
The implication seems to be that as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Robert O'Brien is therefore a saint. Is that how it works?

(506 posts)It has nothing to do with any particularly saintly behavior or piety. Just the term for one baptized in the faith.
...saints who don't know what "No Solicitors" means.

(24,324 posts)once on a sunday drive i stopped in with my wife,.. almost nobody there.. we were offered a tour. of the building.. like a museum.... and accepted.. some really old guy in a suit, with a think tie with a gold horizontal tie clasp, as i remember,, who smelled musty... ( I'm almopst 76 so no wisecracks, please...)
i tell you friends, it was beyond the pale...
that's all i can say... we DID manage to keep from laughing...
Now this is not, i guess, to disparage mormons here... well i guess it does, but what can I say... i am just going by that 20 minute experience..

He replied, without missing a beat, "Because of their weird church."
I think I was 7 or 8 at the time...so glad to still have my dad with us! Cheers to you old man!

(10,692 posts)Every member is a saint. The LDS Church doesnt believe in Saints like the Catholic Church does - on any level.

(147,575 posts)There is a conflict in your saying that LDS "doesn't even believe in Saints" but at the same time believes every member is a saint. I didn't define what a saint is, but clearly the LDS church does believe in them, since it's part of the name of the church.

(10,692 posts)Sorry I wasnt very being clear - I was born and raised in the church. I was trying to distinguish that Mormon term saints doean not match what most religions define the word to mean. In fact growing up we were taught Catholics and other faiths that worship saints or pray to them is wrong.
Sorry I wasnt too clear.

(147,575 posts)People don't get to redefine it for others who don't follow a particular faith. How LDSers define it is irrelevant to me, since I'm an atheist of 50 years standing. I know a number of definitions of the word "saint," and none of them have anything to do with the LDS church.
