Related: About this forumCatholic priests in Poland burn Harry Potter and Twilight books
https://www.thejournal.ie/poland-priests-books-4570737-Apr2019/Catholic priests in a Polish city burned a number of books they claim are sacrilegious over the weekend, including some from the popular Harry Potter and Twilight series.
In a Facebook post showing photographs of the public book burning, priests in the city of Koszalin quoted Old Testament passages. They urged believers to destroy the enemies of God, telling them to burn their idols in the fire.
...In recent months, Polands influential Roman Catholic church has been struggling to deal with the fallout of revelations about paedophilia among priests that are unprecedented in this overwhelmingly Catholic country.
Last month, the Polish episcopate admitted for the first time that nearly 400 of its clergy had sexually abused children and minors over the last three decades.

400 sexual abusers, but the REAL problem is children's books. Sigh.

(17,027 posts)1. That is some medieval shit.
This ought to give people an idea about what that church is about: ignorance.

I will give you a match. Not because of fear for the content in them, but because their best use is for warmth.
Harry Potter on the other hand. Those books are valuable for their intended purpose.

(147,606 posts)4. How utterly medieval of them.
Will they burn heretics and witches next?

(1,896 posts)5. Think of this as methadone for burning witches and heretics.
Or maybe more of a Chantix patch.

They started smashing vinyl records, but now they can't even do that. This is what they do instead.

I suggest they ignore the literature and burn their testicles and penises instead-it prevents evil and there is no danger of a second edition...
Perhaps they should look inward to see why kids don't like their church as much as they like those books.
