Cupid Was a Roman God. Cupidity Is a Common Christian Attribute.

So it seems, anyhow. Between the Roman Catholic Church's quest for revenues and the fundamentalists' quest for the cash in their congregations' collective pocketbook, it seems to me as though Cupid has stuck around. Perhaps demoted to just an angel or something, but still there, encouraging love - Love of Money! Capitalism, Flock-Fleecing, and Accumulation of Wealth are apparent everywhere in the Christian world.

Both the RCC and the evangelicals keep trying to discourage the original Cupid's goals of making people love each other frequently and ardently. Is that so their own love of money demands people's full attention?

Who can say?

exhibited everywhere must serve some function.

Or do you expect perfection of some groups?

except more of the same, followed by more of the same, ad infinitum. Until the mass of individual humans rejects the leadership of those organizations and acts in sensible, humanitarian ways, nothing will change.

Expecting long-established organizations, overloaded with doctrine, to change is expecting too much. History has demonstrated that remarkably well.

So, throw off your bonds and join with others who recognize the harm being done by religion.

It often works in evil ways. Religion can cause great harm. Do you truly not understand that, Guy? Do you not abhor that, Guy? Do you not fight against that, Guy? Or do you simply act as a religious apologist?

Fight evil, Guy. That's my advice to you. Fight it, regardless of its source.

Seeking control. It is a futile quest, however. Rug used to do the same thing, but he is no longer on DU.
