Related: About this forumOur Winter Holiday Tree Is Up and Lit
I put our 20+ year old artificial tree together after morning coffee and newspaper reading hour. As I type, my wife has already added the lights (400 of them) and is upstairs putting our collection of ornaments strategically here and there on the plastic branchlets. Then, she will ask me to bring up the rest of the holiday decorations for the house.
I stay out of her way during this process, since I'm prone to offering unwanted advice, which peeves my wife quite a good deal. That's never a good idea, I have learned in our 27 years of marriage. I'm available, of course, on request, for heavy lifting and other menial tasks.
Once she's finished, I'll prepare our Thanksgiving & Fall Harvest Celebration meal. We're on our own this year, so I'm roasting a couple of turkey thighs, to be served with garlic mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and my version of Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuits. A nice California Chardonnay will grace the table.
And, speaking of grace, we won't speak a grace. Instead, we'll simply be thankful for the good things in our life and for our dogs and cats, which will be eagerly joining us for table scraps. Dude Sez: "Turkey? Turkey? Like Turkey. Give Turkey! Now, Please!"
Our Holiday decorations and celebrations are non-religious. Oddly enough, they look a lot like everyone else's.
Happy Thanksgiving to all participants in the Religion Group on DU. I hope you enjoy the day, as well.

(147,829 posts)We're just opening a bottle of Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve. My wife likes that one a lot, so that's what I chose for tonight.
We used to live near the Edna Valley wine district in California. Fortunately, we can still buy wines from there and from our other favorite areas here in Minnesota. We've tried a few Minnesota wines, but I'm not a big fan of most of them. However, there are some wonderful ciders available here, since apples are a major crop in the state.

(19,459 posts)That's a nice part of our state.
My family was in Minnesota from the time it was considered a frontier. Two of them served in the 4th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War.
