Now traveling between DC area and Boca Raton, FL, area Wednesday, March 6. (Will be in the area to visit with friends through March 11.)
Arrived in Fayetteville, NC, this evening, heading south in the morning, but as have time, wonder if DUers have suggestions for next night and folliowing daytime, before entering Florida to arrive near Boca Wednesday. (Will visit Savannah on return trip.)
Thoughts? Possible/worth a 'detour' to/through Charleston, SC, area?
THANKS!

(60,531 posts)Nice architecture (a good walking town) but a foodie town....nothing like freshly made pralines (you can smell them a mile away)...and low country cooking - seafood! - gardens of course not so nice yet. There are some not so nice parts of town as well, so a visitor center and a map and recommendations would help.
Safe travels and have fun, whatever you decide to do!

(34,428 posts)We've stayed in both and they are lovely. Beaufort has a small downtown with shops and bed & breakfast type places to stay. Amelia has hotels and beautiful beaches (we stayed at Plantation Inn which I think is now owned by Omni).

(33,076 posts)...you will likely be driving to Beaufort via Hwy. 17. If so, you might find the Old Sheldon Church ruin to be interesting. It's only about a quarter of a mile off the highway. The directions and information are here:

Lots of decent seafood restaurants over on Hilton Head Island. Hudson's is pretty good, and it's right on the water.
