DUers who're on Medicare, what do you do about insurance when you leave the US?

As you know, Medicare won't pay for expenses outside the US. My Medicare supplement won't pay for expenses outside the US either.

I'm planning to visit the UK for about 10 days this spring.

1. You can buy a short-term policy. Google "travel insurance" nt

2. If you have certain Medicare supplement plans

I believe they will cover up to $50,000 (after a deductible) in the event of an emergency for travel outside the US which begins in the first 60 days of your trip. Our plan (G) through Transamerica does cover this way. I understand that plans F, N, C, D, and N do as well. I'm not certain about others. You may have to pay for prescription drugs, but they are probably cheaper abroad than here with insurance anyway.

3. We have Tri-Care as well as Medicare.

So we are good on Military bases overseas because my husband is Retired Military.

You might want to check online about health care needs while overseas.

4. If you're just visiting, you buy the appropriate travel insurance.

I spent a wonderful semester at Cambridge, traveled around, took the ferry to Normandy, then on to Paris.

Since then I've traveled to the UK and Europe several times, but that earlier experience was very special.

Want to check, but last I heard they have free medical care..I know that in France they take care of you regardless never a charge.

A niece of mine got pretty ill while there and it was all free ..... Not sure about England

7. My supplementally insurance plan includes overseas coverage.

I also buy travel insurance for lengthy and more complicated travel.
