and the cruise company "policy" on tipping while on board. I tip based on service provided or not.

I think I'm required to pay the tips to the company. I'm fine with that if it gets me off the hook for doing anything more.

give some additional recognition to the staff that spend the most time waiting on you. Your cabin steward is first on that list, followed closely by your dining room waiter. They both generally get some additional tips personally from passengers, depending on how well they took care of you.

That's what I need to know. Now the only question is how much. I have until December to figure it out.

All alcohol and soft drinks, specialty dining rooms, all day tours. Basic buffets can get boring after a few days.I
Used to love cruising, but the new ships are really too big and crowded.
So we won't do it anymore

I'm doing lots of extras. I got a free drinks package. Some specialty dining. A shore excursion. A little bit of gambling.

They have so much work to do and so little time, I always leave a nice large tip for them.

I was a chambermaid one summer. Uggg. Horrid job and really hard work. I always tip the chambermaid. In fact, I now leave a $5 on my pillow every morning because if you only leave a tip when you leave, it might not go to the person who's been cleaning up after you all along.

My question, though, is should I tip the person more than the cruise company requires or are they covered enough by that?

From start to finish, if not I tip the others on their last day I'm on board.

All it takes is a moment, and it should be obvious I do mean above what the cruise line pays them.

I've talked with a few stewards and other cruise line employees over the years, they don't get enough as far as I'm concerned.

It's usually around $100 extra I leave on board.

I don't drink alcohol so I do have a little extra cash to play with.

I can imagine that they get stiffed now and then.

And when I go through an airport and have to use a chauferred wheelchair it's always 10 bucks for the attendant, you only live once.......

I'm all set now.

I'm so glad I asked. I had thought the mandatory tip was sufficient.

And knowing that I may have made them smile, my parents had something to do with this, damn those liberals anyway.
