The United States Women's National team have repeated as World Cup champions. After beating the Netherlands 2-0 in Sunday's final, they hoist the trophy for the second consecutive tournament.
Throughout this World Cup, the U.S. women had a lead going into halftime of every match they had played. They had never been held scoreless in the first half. It took an hour of game time before Megan Rapinoe broke the scoreless tie for the U.S. on a penalty kick.
The No. 1 ranked United States Women's National team and the Netherlands national team - ranked No. 8 - have completed their first half. Team USA is aiming to repeat as reigning champions. The Dutch are trying to pull off a huge upset.

(912 posts)And we got to see some great young players, along with the 'old guard'.
If you were watching over the length of the Cup games, one of the 'youngsters' really stood out to me on the pitch. Rose Lavelle. The young midfielder is very dynamic. She scored the 2nd clinching goal for the US in the final on a fantastic solo run, and ended up being named the 3rd best player in Cup series. She just turned 24, is short for this level of competition at 5' 4", and maybe 110 lbs soaking wet, but what a player! She's also funny as hell. One of her teammates described her as a 'goofball nerd' if I recall correctly. Now I don't do FB, tweet or any of that stuff, but I can still look at that stuff on the net. Her Twitterfeed is hysterical. Take a look - https://twitter.com/roselavelle
