(14,800 posts)Leverkusen couldn't get anywhere near Barcelona. I'm suprised they managed to pull a goal back.
Lots of people now saying that Messi is the greatest player ever. I'm not so sure that he is actually better then Pele or Maradona (even if last night's performance from Messi may quite possibly be the best individual display I've ever seen in a football match). As magnificent as he is for Barcelona, he hasn't yet managed to light up a world cup.
Rambis
(7,774 posts)Everyone was out to break his legs on every tackle and if they couldn't manage that they kicked him over and over. No modern footballer has been kicked like that and never will be which makes his achievements even more stunning.
Ron Obvious
(6,261 posts)We're privileged to be living in his time. In addition, it's impossible to hate him because he never dives or shows diva-like behaviour.
And yet, let me confess here that I do not like Barcelona. There's something deeply unlikeable about them. Maybe it's how the media goes on about them. But look at their behavour, their moaning and whingeing when things do not completely go their way. Their sense of entitlement. Hell,. I even cheered when Mourinho's Inter knocked them out a couple of years ago, and I detest Inter.
I'd love it (just love it), if Barcelona were knocked out by Apoel Nicosia or Basel.
many a good man
(5,998 posts)There's ample reason to consider them among the best of all time. They help make Messi Messi. I don't find them whining (ahem, RM!), but rather usually very gracious with very few exceptions. There was no sense of entitlement in '09.
Enjoy Messi! Visca el Barça!
