David Moyes: Manchester United manager sacked by club

Manchester United manager David Moyes has been sacked, only 10 months after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.

He was dismissed at a meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the club's Carrington training ground shortly after 0800 BST.

Moyes, 50, was chosen by Ferguson as the man to succeed him when he retired after 26 years in charge last summer.

United said player-coach Ryan Giggs will take charge "until a permanent appointment can be made".

1. Regardless of my own feelings about Man U

Following Alex Ferguson was an impossible task.

2. In today's climate, Ferguson would've been sacked as well.

It took several years before SAF was successful with Man U. He would've been out on his ear at the end of the first season in today's climate.

I don't know if Moyes was the man for Man U, but I don't think he was their biggest problem either. The squad just isn't that good - its best players either past it (Giggs, Ferdinand, Vidic), massively overrated (Rooney) or injury-prone (RVP) and what's left isn't good enough. The club has parasitical ownership that leeches the money out of the club that should've been invested in new players years ago and have saddled the club with a massive debt that needs to be serviced.

Rumours are that Louis van Gaal will be offered the job and given 100 million pounds to spend on players. If I were him, I wouldn't dream of taking the job. That 100 million sounds like a lot, but in today's market wouldn't buy more than 1 or 2 top players (especially now that they'd have to overpay for top players because there's no Champions League for them next year.

I predict an extended period of mediocrity for Man United.

Especially the part about Rooney. I've just been over to Redcafe and they're running a poll on whether the next manager should try and unload him. It doesn't look good for the nation's favourite granny fancier.

7. His 300,000 a week means he has one option

PSG- They are the only ones that can pay it for now. Hazzard looks to be on his way there so it looks like a decent partnership. I just hope FFP has teeth. If it does then then Citeh and their sheik are in trouble, The Gluttons debts and interest payments will outstrip their assests by 2017. They have to sell before that. They have sucked 700 mil out of the club so far. The front company of the russian mobster owns who lends all the money to Chelski is gonna have to go too. It will all get very interesting if, IF FFP is enforced. Moyes, Ive watched Moyes from across the park for ten years we all knew he was out of his depth. I just wish he would have been given a couple more years to really do some damage. They should have hired someone like a Zola then sacked him as it was a dead man walking job after slur alex.

... whether PSG are willing to pay that amount for and to a guy who, let's be honest, only looks class when he fancies it. The rest of the time he could pass for a 40 year old ex pro jogging through friendly five a side game. IMHO they'd be mad to touch him.

I agree with the rest of your post. Basically the English game would be immeasurably better of if the Glazers, Abramovic and Mansour sod off back where they came from, taking their plastic fans and insanely inflated wages with them.

4. Here's my issue with that

They got a ton of money. When you got the money they do, you can buy your way back. They will. Too much money on the table to be made not to.

But I suppose time will tell.

5. Man United do not have a ton of money.

They are basically functioning as a cash cow for the Glazers who are using United's operating profit to pay off their own debts. Chelsea and Man City only have to ask their sugar daddies for more money. That is not an option for United.

Next season they will lose somewhere in the region of 50 million quid in revenue as a result of not qualifying for the Champions' League.

They are paying Wayne Rooney 300,000 a week for the next five years and there is no way they can get him off the wage bill. No one else will pay him that much and he ain't gonna leave United for a pay cut.

If United do get van Gaal, it will be after the World Cup and he will have a very short time to try and sign players to bolster an aging and inadequate squad. What world class player is going to sign for a club up to its eyes in debt and with no Champions' League football on offer? Also, the whining "senior" players who lost Moyse his job are not going to take to a Dutch disciplinarian and will probably try a similar insurrection next season..

Meanwhile, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Everton will all have moved on

6. Could Man U have done this differently?

I feel a little bad for Moyes, but he'll land on his feet in the end. Man U really could have been a lot more professional about the way this all went down, though.

Hopefully Pep Guardiola ends up taking over at Man U. I'm very, very ready for him to leave the Allianz Arena.
