The Modern Warfare games are pretty good first person action. Tiger Woods golf games have several cool online modes where you can either play directly against other people or simply have finished scores compared. Gran Turismo does real good for racing and Two Worlds II has a decent multi-player game.

There are a bunch of other good options depending on what genre.

Anything in that genre you can suggest for a starter game?

There are some very cool RPG's out there but ones with a really good online component as well are tough... There is Two Worlds II that is good and the online is even decent but decent people playing can be tough. Sacred 2 is another really good RPG with an online component that is also lacking people any more... It does have two player though, so you can at least play together... I did that a bunch when I was in MA last time. Skyrim is the shit, she wants this game even though it is single player only though.

If you have a computer that will run Diablo III (two, if you both want to play at the same time), I think it is the very best right now and will be around for a very long time... Diablo II is more then a decade old (I belive... around there) and was (not sure if it still is) going strong right up till D3 was released.

I think right now the ones I have the most fun with are:

Modern Warfare 3
Grand Theft Auto 4
Borderlands

That is just my opinion for games I like though... Take a look here:

To get an idea of what games have what in terms of multi player, use the filter (on the right) to see only certain genre's. You can click the game name to get a synopsis of the game. Also, be sure to check out the Playstation store for their free demo's to get a feel for the game yourself because something I think is awesome, you may think sucks.

Keep in mind that the older the game is, the harder it will be to find online players... They tend to drift off to newer games.
