(10,558 posts)I am a fan of Bethesda's "Elder Scrolls" and "Fall Out" series. I love roaming wide open areas going where I wish. I am also a fan of the "Halo" series but never have I played it online. I heard that "Destiny" could be played solo too but I can not find any further info on that. I paid for and took the game home today and found out I needed an Ethernet connection in order to start it up. $25 later I had the cord for that Ethernet connection and got the game up and running....(plus a whole load of other data I have zero use for in "X-BOX-Home" ....only to bump into another gamer! I found nowhere in the game a way to go solo, I did a little look online about this and found nothing there so far either. So do you or does anyone else reading this know if the game is playable fully solo?

(10,558 posts)After posting here I visited the official website for Destiny, it has a 'Help Forum' and I saw similar complaints there too. Apparently the launch is seeing some bugs! That said, while playing the game I was pretty 'creaped out' when I was run into by another gamer. We just sorta stood there and looked at each other then I logged off. I knew beforehand that the game was an MMO but I didn't know I was in the MMO format. I haven't been back since.
Truth be told, I am a solitary gamer, I don't think myself all that unusual in this. I truly love what Bungie did with HALO, it worked just fine for me solo. Maybe I was just wishing for a similar experience in a game designed to be a lot more than what I want. I hope Bungie works out their bugs and I wish the best for them but I am thinking Destiny may not be the sort of game I am interested in at this point.

(10,402 posts)I played the beta for a few days. I never played Halo, so I do not know how comparable it is to that. I believe there are missions you cannot play alone. I'm a solo gamer, so not sure about that. Although in the beta there were people around and we attacked groups together. These FPS games all kind of blend together for me after awhile. I wish there were better adventure games. I have too many on my list at the moment, and they are all so damn expensive because of the price fixing. Last of Us for PS4 is my next game.
Peace

(10,558 posts)It is definitely HALOish in it's graffics, much more to explore though. Yeah, I do like the improvements over HALO but I am still more than dissatisfied with bumping into other gamers while playing. I am sad about that. I made it half way through level 4, went back to do some 'exploring' and did my very best to avoid other gamers. It did not take me long before I was avoiding whole areas that I wanted to explore because others were there exploring too. One team of two were level 13 and 14, I have to wonder what challenges they were having in an area set up to challenge those who were level 3-4. Those gamers I was unable to avoid were pleasant enough in that they waved at me, I would have waved back had I a clue as to how to do so, I suspect they all thought me stuck-up or something.
I dunno, for those gamers who loved to play in those co-op HALO matches, (they are legion btw), DESTINY should be pretty cool. For me, I am pretty much disenchanted with the game. Out of curiosity I still want to see what the moon has to offer now that I can go there but if it is more of the same I will go back to an old tried and true game Fallout 3. At least on that post apocalyptic Earth I can turn the music on or off when I want to.

(10,558 posts)I almost gave up on Destiny early on because I have been a solo/solitary gamer exclusively for my entire gamer life. I hooked into HALO and the original X-Box shortly after both came out but never once could I bring myself to play any of the on-line 'me-vs-anyone-else' options that made the franchise so great. I am something of a recluse anyway so my gaming reflected my personality. I utterly adored HALO, I devoured each new game as it came out and charted my own paths to defeating (most of), them on Legendary difficulty. I am still proud that I managed to defeat HALO 4 on Legendary within 7 days of it's release, with day one being split watching the returns come in, telling the world that President Obama was soundly trouncing Mitt Romney.
Within hours of my opening up Destiny I put it back in it's box and switched to an old Bethesda "Fallout" game I had enjoyed a few years back. I just couldn't handle the idea that I would have to encounter other people on the web with my gaming but my passion for all things HALO made me give it another try. Now I have a 'level 22 Titan'. She is alien, an 'Awoken' is her race I think, I have great 'rare' armor which I shaded an emerald color and great 'rare' weaponry in my inventory. I slogged through all the available missions on Earth, the Moon, Venus and I am having a great time getting my butt kicked while being utterly lost on Mars. Let me tell you something about Mars: That place is HUGE!
I dunno, maybe the guys who created HALO have found a way to bottle crack-cocaine and pipe it electronically through my X-BOX because I am thoroughly addicted to Destiny! Yes, I am still a soloist but slowly the game is drawing me out of my shell. Now instead of running away from other players, when the call comes in through our 'Ghosts' to defend a location or to defeat an incursion I rush to the location as fast as possible to stand shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Guardians! At level 22 I am not even close to the toughest alien out there but I have found pride in the character I have so far created.
I looked for other threads here in Gaming about Destiny before posting here yuiyoshida, yours it appears is the only one. Earlier I posted in your thread that I was unhappy with Destiny, I hope this post amends my earlier dissatisfaction. I'll not be upgrading my armor standing around in DU so it's back to Mars I go.

(42,714 posts)Take a photo of your character and paste it here. Would love to see it. I love gaming too, I just wish my little laptop had more memory. Maybe the next time I buy a computer, It will be gamer ready.

(10,558 posts)Anotherwords I've been too dang busy playing Destiny! The only reason I turned the game off just now was so I could cook up a little breakfast. (There doesn't appear to be a 'pause' button in Destiny).
There are two reasons I won't be posting an image of my level 24 Titan female here: The first reason occurred yesterday while I was in the 'Tower'. I encountered another player who had chosen out of the countless possibilities, the exact same character modifiers I had! Both of us are female Titans, same alien race, same hair style and color, same pale blue skin our eyes were an exact match even!. I wasn't at all bothered by 'looking at myself' (my first thought was "TRAMP!!" but then this character's owner sent me a letter over at the Tower's Post Office: "Great Look! You openly gay too bro?" Eventually I will bump into this idiot again.... but now I am a bit traumatized about my appearances!
Ok so that's not the real reason for my not posting an image of my character, (it DID happen though), the real reason is that I simply DO NOT KNOW HOW to post my character's image from Destiny to here. I know it should not be an excuse but at 60, I can't even figure out how to properly operate my so called 'smart' phone much less transfer X-Box character images to the internets!
If you happen to know how I can post that image here let me know and I'll give it a try. I promise to check back in a day or two but right now I am heading back to Destiny. I am going over to the Crucible, it's a place where players can match their characters against each other. I plan to find me that smart-ass who made fun of my character selection and kick his racist/sexist/xenophobist butt!

(42,714 posts)There is a function on my computer: pressing fn and then F11 key. You might be able to do a print screen, and then go to paint, and scroll through and click on edit, and paste. Then you give it a name and make it a JPG, and then post the photo at a place like tinypic.com and you can copy and paste the image location here.
Here is one I found on Google.
