GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The beautiful mystery tour will continue. Aaron Rodgers is not done with the Green Bay Packers just yet, and now there really is a chance the four-time NFL MVP finish his career in the same place it started.
Rodgers has decided he will return to the Packers for the 2022 season, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The sides are working on a new contract that would lower his salary-cap figure for the 2022 season while giving Rodgers, 38, contractual clarity well into his 40s.

"I feel like I'm at the place relationally with the Packers -- in a really good place, especially with Brian (GM Brian Gutekunst) and the way our friendship and trust has grown," Rodgers said Jan. 25 on "The Pat McAfee Show." "Brian and I have had good conversations throughout the year, and when it comes time to make a decision, we'll have a conversation and that'll be that. It won't be a long, drawn-out process."

(5,122 posts)They must be planning to backload the new Rodgers contract.
In 2024 or 2025, the Green Bay Packers will be in the same cap position as the New Orleans Saints are this year.
