AP Top 25 poll, Week 12: Ohio State leaps over Alabama and Cincinnati

The voting habits of the AP Top 25 poll voters and the College Football Playoff selection committee have often differed, but the way Week 12 played out with two top-10 teams losing and Ohio State putting on a show in one of the most-typed top-10 matchups of the season bring some interesting debates to the top of the rankings. After Sunday's balloting, the AP voters have Georgia still the unanimous No. 1, but the Buckeyes have jumped from No. 5 all the way to No. 2 in the new poll.

Ohio State is followed by Alabama at No. 3 and Cincinnati at No. 4, with each team giving up one spot in the poll because of the Buckeyes notable leap. Notre Dame moved up to No. 5, followed by Michigan, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Baylor and Oklahoma to round out the top 10.

1. That's the AP sportswriter poll. The coaches poll has kept AL at #2, OSU # 3, but same as AP poll

I don't think Michigan will give them much trouble.

For a great game I think the Oklahoma, Oklahoma State game should be a humdinger.

Even the most educated, intelligent people get very superstitious about the OSU-school up north game.

11. Agree. THE GAME is notorious for throwing out the records and ruining the other team. That said,

12. The weather is bad for a passing team like Ohio State.

I hope they can survive Ann Arbor today with a win.

If the Buckeyes can do that, it's all indoor stadiums for them thereafter. Much more conducive for their QB and WR's, not dealing with slippery footballs.

It's these kinds of games that make Woody Hayes' "three yards and a cloud of dust" strategy make more sense. (Then it would often look idiotic at the sunny and dry Rose Bowl, against the quick and pass-happy Pac-10 teams.)

... but they really don't have a chance. This Ohio State Team is scary good.

U of M is 3 and 17 against OSU w/its last win being in 2011 ..

but they deserve it. totally dismantled MSU. The game I want to see, is them and Georgia. Classic offense versus defense. We shall see...

Any predictions?

I have not been following GA lately, but they must be good to be ranked No. 1

Right, the OSU/Mich State game was amazing.

Not a fan of Alabama, but should be a good game. And an important source of intel for OSU.

I know you are not an OSU fan, but I am. I thought OSU was dead in the water at the beginning of the season, they played like a high school team. And then they started playing like real champions.
Very exciting.

Sorry about your teams. Some years are like that, maybe next year will be better for your guys.
