(106,340 posts)They'd be better off running audio from a large socially distanced bar with about two dozen energetic (mask-wearing) fans watching on the big screen.

(6,325 posts)I am biased, but I thought they did a good job of supplying just enough "crowd" noise to prevent it sounding dead. PA announcer was also restrained.

NBC is at least engineering some sound mixing. Its more realistic and less noisy. I can hear Michaels and Collinsworth. FOX was unbearable today.

(6,308 posts)This was in The News Tribune. They said the NFL said you can pipe in fake noise if there are no fans and there's an upper limit to the volume. The Seahawks originally thought they'd go loud to try to re-create the usual home game experience, but the catch is the NFL both set an upper limit and decreed that the level cannot vary during the game (so you cannot crank it up when you're on defense and turn it down on offense).
They ultimately decided they'd go with a low-level sound that the reporter likened to the sound of traffic on I-5

(31,798 posts)Maybe its better Ill have to hear a Seattle home game. The FOX effort during the 49ers/Cardinals game was a lazy, half-assed attempt.

FOX did better with the 49ers/Jets game today. Sounded like a real crowd. But, just like a laugh track, annoying when you gave it any thought.

(10,885 posts)The noise level is too consistent despite the occasional extra spikes. In reality, there are lulls in the sound at times. There haven't been any in the games I've watched.
It's also turned up so loud that the announcers have to shout annoyingly to be heard. A lesser volume would be more pleasant and make more sense.
