3) Auction the pick, and use the picks you get in return to draft linemen and skill players to help Peyton Manning win one more ring
4) Trade the pick to Green Bay for Flynn (OK, that's a joke, but if you saw the Lions/Packers game, you know what I mean).

If he's not completely recovered, the Colts clearly MUST go in a different direction. I think everyone would agree on that.

Let's say he's completely recovered for the sake of discussion. He's still in the last five years of his career and he's due a big contract payment this year ($28M if I understand correctly). The Colts would be in the same position the Packers were in when they had aging Brett Favre, and the opportunity to take Aaron Rodgers. In Green Bay's case, Favre wouldn't mentor Rodgers and was ultimately shown the door. Do the Colts want that drama? Even damaged Manning could potentially garner some market value with teams like Washington or Minnesota.

A undeserved twist of fate to one of the few superstars who has been a credit to the league. But after three operations, it's hard to be optimistic about his chances. There's really nothing that can be done but "hurry up and wait" to see what condition Peyton is in by draft day.

Draft Luck, Manning is not going to be around forever, he's getting older. Let luck sit for a few years and by then he may be able to lead the colts to the superbowl like Rodgers did with the Packers.

Folks overestimate the longevity of sports stars.

The Nolan Ryans and Bret Favres are rare.

And there are few true quarterback sure things in the draft. Even if he is the highest rated QB pick ever it doesn't mean Luck is a sure thing. Just more sure than most.

Since it appears that under current rules you can win 12-15 games with a great QB and a so-so defense I'd keep both QBs until I was sure what was what.

12. The smartest thing is taking Flynn but

Flynn is not going to want to spend another 2-3 years sitting behind another future All-Star so that's out.

So the next best thing is to go ahead and draft Luck and then use the next 3-4 picks on olinemen and defensive players.
Then, next year, you use the number one pick on the best running back available, followed by the best WR available.

This would lead to year 3 where you'd probably be starting Luck, with a first round running back in his second season, a second round WR in his second season, and an at least mediocre to decent oline and defensive team.

Not perfect, but a decent base upon which to build.

Yates is the 3rd stringer. What do the Texans do? Start him next year and release or trade Schaub and Delhomme (who's about done anyway), or go back to Schaub and trade Yates?
