Raiders overcome themselves - and Bucs - in OT win
TAMPA, Fla. - The Raiders got in their own way Sunday, committing an NFL-record 23 penalties to nearly ruin what had been a lovely week in Florida. We say nearly, because — remember — Oakland doesn’t lose on the road.
Not even after Sebastian Janikowski missed a potential game-winning 50-yard field goal wide left with four seconds left.
Or after he missed a 52-yard attempt wide right in overtime.
The Raiders won 30-24 on Derek Carr’s 41-yard touchdown pass to Seth Roberts with 1:45 left in overtime. It was a fourth down play and Roberts broke free from two tacklers and jogged in.
Oakland improved to 6-2 overall and is 5-0 on the road, having completed a sweep of Jacksonville and Tampa Bay during a week in which the team stayed and practiced in Florida.
It wasn’t pretty.
