Ewers' first start will come Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Ewers served as the team's backup quarterback for its Week 7 loss to the Cleveland Browns and briefly entered the game but has otherwise been the Dolphins' emergency quarterback.
"Quinn gives us the best chance to win," McDaniel said.
Quarterback Zach Wilson, the 2021 second overall pick by the New York Jets in the 2021 draft, will be the backup Sunday, while Tagovailoa will be the emergency third quarterback.

You have to wonder what the future holds for Tua and for Kyler Murray of the Cardinals, who has fallen out of favor with management.

(29,808 posts)They are the ones ultimately responsible for why the Cardinals rarely have winning seasons. He is the one that hired the Titans GM who is constantly in rebuilding mode even though we had a franchise quarterback. The GM is the one who hired Jonathan Gannon whose team seems to be regressing in his third year. They also have a former Browns offensive coordinator in Petzing. The Cardinals basically have the Titans GM & the Browns offense. Take a look at Gannon's record with Murray and compare that record to when he doesn't have Murray.
Before Murray had that mysterious serious ending injury the Cardinals were on their way to a 3-2 record so the team always had a chance to win the game but he really hasn't had a full season. I remember Gannon's first year Murray started the season on IR and he returned halfway through and was able to win some games including on the road against Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
I don't want to see the coach and GM to come back and if we start over with a new QB I don't trust the Cardinals organization to be able to develop that player since we are having a tough time developing players especially on the defensive side of the ball. If they do release or trade Murray then they are right back to rebuilding mode and there goes great players like Trey McBride to other teams.
I don't see Brissett as the future. He isn't as good in the red zone and the offense is too one dimensional. Maybe his play action would work if the Cardinals actually ran the ball but if Murray goes I hope he finds a team where he will get playing time.

(25,593 posts)but I think he deserves some credit for stepping into that mess and achieving as much as he has this season.
The backfield has been riddled with injuries. Lost James Conner. Lost Trey Benson. Now lost Bam Knight. Now they're relying on Michael Carter and Emari Demercado.
Marvin Harrison has missed 4 of the last 5 games, and most of the time when he's played, he's underwhelmed.
Thank goodness for Trey McBride and the emergence of Michael Wilson. Otherwise this would be a REAL trainwreck.
The defense ranks in the bottom 10 in the league too.

(29,808 posts)but I don't give him much credit for playing the Cardinals out of the playoffs. Gannon is 2-15 in games without Murray and I think those 2 wins were against the Cowboys. I think the first year under Gannon backups played the Cardinals out of the playoffs and by the time Murray steps in they are already out of it. This is also when McBride proved he was the best TE from his draft class (he was a Keim pick though). Before that the Cardinals had Ertz who struggled to catch passes over his head and wasn't good at yards after the catch. I think an Eagles fan called him "No YAC Zach".
Brissett does have chemistry with Michael Wilson so Wilson proved he can play at the NFL level. I think Marvin Harrison Jr can be a very good player but he had drops and chemistry problems with Murray. The biggest difference with the receivers after Murray went out is they actually started catching the ball.
I know the injuries at the RB position led to a pass first offense but even Demercado is good at scoring long distance untouched touchdown runs as long as he doesn't toss the ball before he scores. I would run the ball more often. The offense is too predictable as it is but at least Brissett threw to McBride more often in the Houston game.
As far as the defense they drafted a lot of defensive players especially in the first couple of rounds. I think the 2 offensive players Paris Johnson and Marvin Harrison will work out but this organization is showing they are terrible at player development when you consider how many busts are on the defensive side.
