The NFL suspended Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison one game without pay for his helmet-to-helmet hit Thursday night on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy.
Harrison is expected to miss Monday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers, though he will appeal the suspension, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

(10,424 posts)First player in 25 years to be suspended for a tackle on the field. Why does the league hate Harrison? I have seen hits that were much worse.

(35,392 posts)you remember, the overwhelming majority of team owners are Republicans ...
and the Steelers were (notoriously, but not 100%) for Obama in 2008 ...

Harrison was the one that refused to go to the White House.

(35,392 posts)IIRC, he did that to both Obama and Bush, right? Kinda negates the idea that him snubbing Obama endeared him to Repugs ...

(10,599 posts)They are trying to put a stop to helmet-to-helmet hits, which are dangerous.
That wasn't a tackle.

(3,245 posts)but that's the decision.
He does have a habit of leading with his head. He needs to change that.
I'll bet his appeal will be denied and prett swiftly. He'll be out for Monday's game.

(3,121 posts)but this comes at the worst time for the steelers. They are tied with Baltimore, but essentially 1 game down, and of all games to have this happen on the remaining schedule, this was the 1 he couldn't afford let happen.

(3,245 posts)after this week, we have the Rams and the Browns. Not sure who Baltimore has, but with all the other injuries, for him to have to sit out will hurt. Hopefully LaMarr Woodley will be ready. So far Jason Worilds has filled in pretty well, but he's not at the Harrison or Woodley level yet.
