That was a nasty looking knee injury for Nick Chubb! Hopefully he bounces back in a few weeks but he could be gone for the season.
If it's really bad, there's a possibility of a trade for Jonathan Taylor (although he's supposed to be eligible in Week 5 after coming off of an injury himself), a trade for Cam Akers who the Rams are ready to part with, or the signing of free agents Kareem Hunt or Leonard Fournette.

(20,474 posts)if Jerome Ford can run like that (70 yards) now and again, Cleveland might be all right!

(57,711 posts)He can be the starting back like he was in KC. Chubb won't have to rush back.

(20,474 posts)Just a question of $$$ and term, I guess.

(20,474 posts)I had to look it up online. I suspected the news broke over the past hour or two but it happened yesterday and somehow it completely passed me by.
Will be interesting to see how the carries are divided between Hunt and Ford. I suspect they will slowly increase the volume for Hunt as he ramps up over the next few weeks. His yards per carry was unimpressive last year. Can he turn that around?

(31,816 posts)Stefanskis offense is one-dimensional and predictable. Get a new GM and ownership as well. Their recent trades and acquisitions have hurt the team.
Mayfield is a good QB. Should have kept him. Money spent on the outlandish contract of Watson could have been spent to deepen the roster. Will give credit to defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz whose D had a great game.

(20,474 posts)Could I interest you in a Bill Belichick, by chance? There were rumblings about his demise last season and the 0-2 start this year has some talking heads frothing at the mouth already. There's plenty of criticism that his old-school approaches are not keeping up with the modern game. And he shapes that team too, by making draft picks (often poor ones).
So I'm guessing you're going to pass on Belichick.
Auggie
(31,816 posts)He did coach the Browns once. He released Bernie Kosar, too. It was the right move BTW, though Browns' fans never forgave him.
I'd like to say "start with ownership -- again -- and work down," but with Watson's guaranteed 5 year, $230,000,000 contract, even that wouldn't work. GMs and coaches are going to find it difficult working with those numbers under a salary cap (Watson's average annual salary is $46,000,000),
Browns' may be -- correct that, are -- the dumbest franchise in the NFL. High draft picks lost in trades for Odell Beckham and Watson will hurt them for a years.

(5,124 posts)However, if they miss the playoffs this season (a good possibility), Belichick could come back on the hot seat next year. I do see New England allowing him to retire on his own terms and get themselves in a position to take a good young QB (sorry Patriots fans, but Mac Jones is not Brady 2.0).
I don't see any strong head coach candidates on the horizon. The Chargers are likely to fire their coach if he continues to underperform this season.

(20,474 posts)Unless the Chargers rip off a bunch of wins, I'd say he's gone by mid-season.

(20,474 posts)It is not known which ligaments are torn, but the cart coming out to transport Chubb off the field in Pittsburgh and ABC opting to not show a close-up replay of the injury pointed to this outcome. More tests are on tap for Chubb, but he is unlikely to play again until 2024. Kevin Stefanski soon confirmed Chubb is expected to be out for the season.

Chubb's injury appears to be worse than hyperextension, much worse.
